An energy storage system and a method of controlling the same is provided. The energy storage system may directly provide generated DC power or DC power stored in a battery to a DC load without performing a DC/AC conversion or an AC/DC conversion. Furthermore, in the case where a grid operates abnormally (e.g. power interruption) and the energy storage system functions as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), power stored in a battery may be selectively provided to loads according to power remaining in a battery, and thus stored power may be used stably.

An energy storage system has a reduced number of capacitors for storing energy such as renewable energy, thereby reducing cost and improving stability of the system. The energy storage system is configured to store power from a power generating unit, and includes: a storage capacitor having a first end electrically coupled to one end of the power generating unit; a secondary battery having a first terminal electrically coupled to a second end of the storage capacitor, and a second terminal electrically coupled to another end of the power generating unit; and a first converter configured to selectively couple the storage capacitor and the secondary battery to a load.

A controller executes local generation and local consumption pathways of: supplying power from a solar cell to an appliance, and charging a storage cell with power that remains after subtracting power consumed by the appliance from the solar cell power. In the absence of excess power, the storage cell and solar cell supply power. Power supply from a commercial electrical grid covers a power shortage that remains after subtracting solar cell power and storage cell power from the power consumed by the appliance. The controller also executes a second excess power selling mode pathway wherein excess power flows into the commercial electrical grid, and an assist mode wherein all solar cell power flows into the commercial electrical grid, and storage cell power flows to the appliance.

An energy management system includes: a first interface configured to receive a first power from a power generation system; a second interface configured to couple to the power generation system, a power grid, and a storage device, and to receive at least one of the first power from the power generation system, a second power from the power grid, or a third power from the storage device, and to supply a fourth power to at least one of the power grid or a load; and a third interface configured to receive the third power from the storage device, and to supply a fifth power to the storage device for storage.

In a solar roof member comprising a photovoltaic device encapsulated with an insulating material onto a reinforcing member, the reinforcing member has a joining portion at which an adjoining solar roof member is joined, and a curved portion which is so provided in the reinforcing member as to extend over at least part of the joining portion and through which a lead wire is led out. The solar roof member enables simple roofing without causing wiring mistakes.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power storage type photovoltaic power generation system capable of specifying the power generated by a solar cell and the discharge power of a power storage device, and preventing reverse flow of the discharged power of the power storage device charged with the power from a grid. SOLUTION: A power conditioner of the photovoltaic power generation system in which a solar cell is linked to a grid is provided with: a power converter having both functions of an inverter operation of converting DC power from the solar cell into AC and a converter operation of converting AC power from the grid into DC; a reverse flow relay for detecting that reverse flow is generated in the grid; a single controller for selectively controlling charging/discharging of power for any one of a first power storage device suppressing output variation of the solar cell and a second power storage device charging midnight power; and a changeover switch for interrupting connection between the second power storage device and the controller on the basis of an output of the reverse flow relay when reverse flow of excessive power occurs in the solar cell. In the power conditioner, the controller is connected to a solar cell side of the power converter, and the changeover switch is inserted and connected between the first power storage device, the second power storage device and the power converter. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the number of external connections without damaging appearance by placing a plurality of solar cells on one base material in a solar- cell tile having an integral surface form of a plurality of tiles are unified. SOLUTION: A surface is formed in a shape that a plurality of tiles are unified, and formed in the same shape as a surface shape, in which pantiles are roofed on a roof in nine in total of three in the horizontal direction and three in the flow direction. A rear is formed in a rear shape that a plurality of the tiles are unified, and one ethylene-vinyl acetate film is superposed on the rear of a base material so as to be superposed in the same size as the base material. Square-shaped single-crystal silicon solar cells are stacked at a place corresponding to the plane section of the base material together with wirings, and the film is superposed on the cells and a rear protective film is thermocompression-bonded under a vacuum, thus molding a solar-cell tile. Accordingly, the solar-cell tile as a solar-cell module capable of filling the role as a tile is molded.
