An automated outlier detection system implements an unsupervised set of processes to determine feature subspaces from a dataset; determine candidate exploratory actions, where each candidate exploratory action is a specific combination of a feature subspace and a parameterized instance of an outlier detection algorithm; and identify a set of optimal exploratory actions to recommend for execution on the dataset from among the candidate exploratory actions. Outlier scores obtained as a result of execution of the set of optimal exploratory actions are processed to obtain one or more outlier views such that each outlier view represents a consistent characterization of outliers by each optimal exploratory action corresponding to that outlier view.

Automated outlier detection

A method and apparatus are provided for the generation of a classification tree as a function of a classification model and from a set of data to be classified, described by a set of attributes. The method includes a step for obtaining said classification model, itself comprising a step for defining a mode of use for each attribute, which comprises specifying which property or properties are possessed by said attribute among the following at least two properties, which are not exclusive of each other: an attribute is marked target if it has to be explained; an attribute is marked taboo if it has not to be used as an explanatory attribute, an attribute not marked taboo being an explanatory attribute. Furthermore, the classification model belongs to the group comprising: supervised classification models with one target attribute, in each of which a single attribute is marked target and taboo, the attributes that are not marked target being not marked taboo; supervised classification models with several target attributes, in each of which at least two attributes, but not all the attributes, are marked target and taboo, the attributes not marked target being not marked taboo; and unsupervised classification models, in each of which all the attributes are marked target and at least one attribute is not marked taboo.

A hybrid learning system is provided for searching an experimental space. A data mart is configured to acquire, store, and manipulate a set or meta-set of data including at least historical experimental data, descriptor data, and concurrent experimental data. A search engine is designed to use unsupervised learning techniques to select a set of evaluation points representing a corresponding set of experiments to be run, based on data from the data mart. A point evaluation mechanism provided with supervised learning modules which perform predictive processing based on the evaluation points selected by the search engine, and a scoring module performs a rating operation on outputs of the learning modules to rate the outputs of the learning modules from best to worst. The data mart search engine and point evaluation mechanism allow for a repetitive processing to refine an output of potential solutions without the requirement of continually running actual physical experiments.
