An interactive system for controlling the operation of an HVAC system is provide that comprises a thermostat for initiating the operation of the HVAC system in either a full capacity mode of operation or at least one reduced capacity mode of operation, and a controller for an outside condenser unit having a condenser fan motor and a compressor motor, the controller being capable of operating the compressor in a full capacity mode and at least one reduced capacity mode. The system also comprises a controller for an indoor blower unit having a blower fan motor, the controller being capable of operating the blower fan motor in a full capacity mode an at least one reduced capacity mode. The system further includes a communication means for transmitting information between the outside condenser unit controller and at least the indoor blower controller, where the information relates to the operation of the indoor blower and the outdoor condenser unit. The indoor blower controller responsively controls the operation of the blower fan motor in a full capacity mode or a reduced capacity mode based on the information received from the outdoor unit controller, and the outdoor unit controller responsively controls the operation of the compressor in a full capacity mode or a reduced capacity mode based on the information received from the indoor blower controller.

A method and system for fuel vapor control in a hybrid vehicle (HEV). The HEV fuel vapor recovery system includes a fuel tank isolation valve, which is normally closed to isolate storage of refueling from storage of diurnal vapors. The method for fuel vapor control includes selectively actuating the fuel tank isolation valve during interrelated routines for refueling, fuel vapor purging, and emission system leak detection diagnostics to improve regulation of pressure and vacuum the HEV fuel vapor recovery system.

Disclosed is a system for thermally conditioning and pumping a fluid. The system includes a thermoelectric heat exchanger having a thermoelectric device configured to pump heat. Heat exchangers are provided for transferring heat to and from the thermoelectric device and for generating a fluid flow across the thermoelectric device. The conditioned fluid may be placed in thermal communication with a variety of objects, such as a vehicle seat, or anywhere localized heating and cooling are desired. Thermal isolation may also be provided in the direction of flow to enhance efficiency.

An air conditioning system for use in an over-the-road or off road vehicle is provided that provides a method of operation during both engine on and engine off conditions. The method operates the air conditioning system at one capacity when the engine is running, and at a second capacity when the engine is not running. The selection of these capacities is based on the power capacity of the source of electric power from which the air conditioning system is operated. When a storage battery is used to power the air conditioning system during engine off conditions, the second capacity is lower than the capacity at which the system is operated when the engine is running.

In a vehicle air-conditioning system, an evaporator (9) is disposed in an air-conditioning case (10) to form a bypass passage (16) through which air bypasses the evaporator, and an opening degree of the bypass passage is adjusted by a bypass door (17). When a vehicle engine (4) operates, the system performs a cold-storing mode where cold quantity stored in condensed water on the evaporator is increased. On the other hand, when operation of the vehicle engine is stopped, the system performs a cold-releasing mode where air passing through the evaporator is cooled by cold released from frozen condensed water. During the cold-storing mode and the cold-releasing mode, temperature of air blown into a passenger compartment can be adjusted by adjusting the opening degree of the bypass passage. Thus, in the vehicle air-conditioning system, cold-storing quantity in the evaporator can be improved while power-saving effect of the vehicle engine is improved.

An electric element (Peltier element composite) is disposed in a boundary between an outside air introduction passage and an inside air introduction air passage ( 114 ). The Peltier element composite absorbs heat from the inside air in the inside air introduction passage to cool and dehumidify the inside air and radiates heat to outside air in the outside air introduction passage. The inside air and outside air are blown out from a defroster air outlet through a second air passage. In this way, it is possible to increase an amount of introduced inside air and to improve the heating performance while maintaining the defrosting performance.

In a vehicle air conditioning system, a cold accumulator is disposed between a downstream air side of a cooling heat exchanger and an upstream air side of an air mixing door, to be cooled by cold air having passed through the cooling heat exchanger. Therefore, the cold accumulator can be readily cooled by the cold air from the cooling heat exchanger, while having a simple structure. Further, the cold accumulator is disposed at the upstream air side of the air mixing door, the cold accumulator can be effectively cooled without being affected by a rotation position of the air mixing door.

A motor vehicle dehumidifier, including a dehumidifying drying agent, that can provide a required dehumidifying capacity with a reduced overall quantity of drying agent compared to conventional drying agent-based dehumidifiers. In the present invention, a heat exchanger is disposed on an upstream side of a drying agent unit, and heat is exchanged in the heat exchanger between inside air to be dehumidified and low-temperature outside air used to cool the inside air. The air cooled by the heat exchanger flows into the drying agent unit and is dehumidified. Because the air has an increased relative humidity as a result of being cooled, the amount of water adsorbed from it per unit of drying agent is increased, as the water adsorption characteristic of the drying agent is greatly influenced by the relative humidity of the air passing over it, and is markedly improved by an increase in the relative humidity of that air.

The case has a partition for isolating the fan motor from the secondary battery and cooling fan. A magnetic joint is disposed between the motor and the cooling fan.
