Better cars or older cars?: Assessing CO2 emission reduction potential of passenger vehicle replacement programs

TL;DR: In this paper, a new environmental impact assessment method for assessing the effectiveness of scrappage schemes for reducing CO2 emissions taking into account the rebound effect, driving behavior for older versus new cars and entire lifecycle emissions for during the manufacturing processes of new cars is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrogen in low-carbon energy systems in Japan by 2050: The uncertainties of technology development and implementation

TL;DR: In this article, the role of hydrogen in future energy systems in Japan using a MARKET ALlocation (MARKAL) model is evaluated and a range of uncertainties are considered for nuclear power generation and carbon capture and storage (CCS) from fossil power generation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance of residential fuel-cell-combined heat and power systems for various household types in Japan

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of applying city gas-fueled FC-CHP systems to Japanese households with different attributes were evaluated, and the economic performance results indicated that the basic PEMFC-CNG-powered CHP systems have an economic advantage only for four-person families with teenage children and further development efforts for low-output FC-CPG systems are required to enable various households save energy costs.
