Internal electrodes formed in the interior of a ceramic laminate of a monolithic ceramic capacitor comprise metal conductor parts and semiconductor parts. The semiconductor parts are exposed at both end surfaces of the ceramic laminate to be electrically connected with external electrodes. The external electrodes comprise baked layers of silver formed on the end surfaces of the ceramic laminate and metal plated films formed thereon. In formation of the metal plated films, a plating solution which may reach the end surfaces of the ceramic laminate through the baked layers is blocked by the semiconductor parts and prevented from infiltration into the metal conductor parts of the internal electrodes.

A non-reducible dielectric ceramic composition comprises of a basic composition expressed by the general formula: {(Ba1-x-ySrxCay)O}m(Ti1-o-pZroNbp)O2+p/2 wherein 0.05 ≦ x ≦ 0.30, 0.005 ≦ y ≦ 0.12, 0 < o ≦ 0.20, 0.0005 ≦ p ≦ 0.012, and 1.002 ≦ m ≦ 1.03, or {(Ba1-x-y-zSrxCayMgz)O}m(Ti1-o-pZroNbp)O2+p/2 wherein 0.05 ≦ x ≦ 0.35, 0.005 ≦ y ≦ 0.12, 0.0005 ≦ z ≦ 0.05, 0 < o ≦ 0.20, 0.0005 ≦ p ≦ 0.02, 1.000 ≦ m ≦ 1.04. The composition contains an additive (A) composed of one or more oxides selected from the group of MnO₂, Fe₂O₃, Cr₂O₃, CoO and NiO in an amount of 0.02 to 2.0 moles per 100 moles of the basic composition. The composition further contains an additive (B) consisting of SiO₂ and/or ZnO in an amount of 0.1 to 2.0 moles per 100 moles of the basic composition, or an additive (B) composed of a glass composition of a BaO-SrO-Li₂O-SiO₂ system in an amount of 0.05 to 5.0 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the basic composition.

Non-reducing dielectric ceramic compositions comprise solid solutions which are represented by the compositional formula: {(Ba.sub.1-x Ca.sub.x)O}.sub.m ·(Ti.sub.1-y Zr.sub.y)O.sub.2 wherein m, x and y have the following values: 1.005 ≦ m ≦ 1.03 0.02 ≦ x ≦ 0.22 O < y ≦ 0.20 The compositions possess high permittivity and small dielectric loss and maintain high insulation resistance even if fired in reducing atmospheres, thus making it possible to manufacture inexpensive but high reliable monolithic or multi-layer ceramic capacitors.
