Journal ArticleDOI
The geometry of graphs and some of its algorithmic applications
TL;DR: Efficient algorithms for embedding graphs low-dimensionally with a small distortion, and a new deterministic polynomial-time algorithm that finds a (nearly tight) cut meeting this bound.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cuts, Trees and ℓ 1 -Embeddings of Graphs*
TL;DR: It is shown, surprisingly, that such metrics approximate distances very poorly even for families of graphs with low treewidth, and excludes the possibility of using them to explore the finer structure of ℓ1-embeddability.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
The geometry of graphs and some of its algorithmic applications
TL;DR: Some implications of viewing graphs as geometric objects are explored and efficient algorithms for embedding graphs low-dimensionally with a small distortion are developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lower Bounds on the Distortion of Embedding Finite Metric Spaces in Graphs
Yuri Rabinovich,Ran Raz +1 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the metric space induced by an unweighted graph H of girth g cannot be embedded in a graph G (even if it is weighted) of smaller Euler characteristic, with distortion less than g/4 - 3/2 .
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A computational view of population genetics
TL;DR: It is proved that these systems are “rapidly mixing”, in the sense that the convergence time is very small in comparison with the size of the state space, and it is shown that the classical quadratic system is a good model for the behavior of finite populations of small size.
