A method of adapting a visual unit having a first screen ( 10 ) in a first focal plant by the addition of one or more at least partially transparent display screens ( 20 ) at least partially overlapping said first screen ( 10 ) and located in focal planes distinct from said first focal plane, characterized in that an at least partially transparent emissive layer ( 21 ) is provided between said first screen ( 10 ) and at least one said additional display screen ( 20 ).

Visual display unit illumination

A multi view display (5) provides different viewing angles for different images (3, 4). The display (5) may comprise a single screen on which two or more images (3, 4) are interleaved, or a number of overlapping screens on which respective images (3, 4) are displayed. Viewing manipulation means such as privacy films or lenticular arrays control the viewing angles for each image (3, 4). The multiview display (5) may be used in a vehicle, to simultaneously display a movie (3) to a passenger (1), and a navigation image (3) to a driver (2).

Multi-view display

A circuit board on which the electronic components providing power to a series of light sources is positioned as near as possible to light sources in order to minimize parasitic energy losses which would be introduced by lengths of wiring. The light sources are usually elongate tubular Cold Cathode Fluorescent Tubes arranged parallel to one another in a single plane and the circuit board may be mounted directly over the light sources, towards one end of the tubes. Standard PCB board-to-board connectors may be provided at an edge of the circuit board and a further circuit board provided with a series of conductive tracks may provide both a mechanical and electrical connection between the circuit board and the light sources. A power distribution method is also disclosed in which both current and temperature of the light sources are monitored and regulated in order to extend the lifetime of the light sources and to stabilize their brightness.

Backlighting system for display screen

A method of controlling the point spread function of an image projected with said image being diffused by a filter; said point spread function is a result of the application of spatial filter(s) on said image; with said control of the point spread function effected by varying the distance between such image and said spatial filter(s) and varying the bidirectional scattering transmission function of the spatial filter(s). Said spatial filter may be a holographic diffuser, which by method of manufacture has a well defined bi-directional scattering transmission spread function. Control of said spread function is particularly useful to maintain image quality while abating moire interference in situations where two periodic patterns are layered causing moire interference.

Method to control point spread function of an image

A display device comprising at least two display layers at least in part overlapping in which at least one of said display layers has a dissimilar configuration to the other display layer(s) such that moire interference is reduced.

Multilayer video screen

Methods and apparatus for avoiding moire occurring in color scanning for graphic art, wherein light rays from a color original are passed through a pick-up lens, and prior to starting the color scanning, are modulated by means of a low-pass filter, which modulated rays are branched into two optical paths, on one of the paths a lattice plane is provided so as to project the modulated rays thereon, the lattice plane being beforehand selected in accordance with various conditions for scanning. A possible moire on the lattice plane is observed thereby to adjust the low-pass filter by replacement or displacement until the moire disappears on the lattice plane. Finally the light rays from the color original are modulated by the selected low-pass filter.

Methods and apparatus for avoiding moire in color scanners for graphic art

PURPOSE:To eliminate moire even when an LPF is replaced by modulating light from an original picture passed through a pickup lens by the LPF, reducing and projecting the light from the original picture upon a specific grating surface through a lens, and observing appearing moire. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 1 is reflected by a mirror 2 at right angles, and passed through a small area of the original picture 4 and then transmitted through a pickup lens 5 and the LPF7, and its optical path is branched by a branching mirror 7. A reduction lens 8 for reducing an image expanded through the lens 5 and a grating 9 are so arranged on one optical path as to observe whether moire appears on the grating surface or not with the naked eyes. A reflecting mirror 10, aperture 11, three photoelectric converters corresponding to dichroic mirrors 12 for separating light into three color components R, G, and B and a total reflection mirror 12 are arranged on the other optical path, thus obtaining color-separated scanning image signals of the original picture. The moire is observed and a high frequency component is cut by the LPF to prevent the formation of the moire.
