Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of oral bacteria on growth and survival of Candida albicans biofilms

TL;DR: The data indicate that, quantitative and qualitative nature of the bacteria modulate C. albicans biofilm formation in mixed species environments such as the oral cavity and co-culture with differing concentrations of bacteria had variable effects on CandidaBiofilm formation.
Journal ArticleDOI

In vitro biofilm formation of Candida albicans and non-albicans Candida species under dynamic and anaerobic conditions.

TL;DR: The data indicate that biofilm formation of C. albicans and non-albicans Candida species is modulated by hydrodynamic conditions and ambient oxygen gradients, however, further work is required to fully elucidate how Candida biofilms persist within the oral milieu under such challenging ecological pressures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary sugars, serum and the biocide chlorhexidine digluconate modify the population and structural dynamics of mixed Candida albicans and Escherichia coli biofilms.

TL;DR: The current data elucidate some features of the colonization resistance offered by bacteria in mixed bacterial/fungal habitats and how such phenomena may contribute to the development of fungal superinfection during antimicrobial therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI

The post-antifungal effect (PAFE) of amphotericin B, nystatin, ketoconazole and 5-fluorocytosine and its impact on the colonization traits of Candida glabrata.

TL;DR: The post-antifungal effect (PAFE) has been shown to affect Candida pathogenicity, but there is little information on either PAFE or its association with the colonization traits of Candida glabrata.
