A system and method for processing data related to weather phenomena in a meteorological radar system. The method includes receiving an echo signal generated by transmitting a long pulse and employing a mismatched windowed filter on the echo signal such that the echo signal is compressed in time to achieve fine range resolution without substantially degrading sensitivity and while achieving low range time side lobes for Doppler velocities expected to be measured by the meteorological radar system.

Method for using pulse compression in weather radar

This paper presents results of spectral analysis and design performance of the up-converter module of the coherent multiple-frequency chirp exciter for long distance L Band surveillance radars. Some measured results of spectral and noise purity of the exciter with coherent frequency synthesizer driven from high stability oscillator source are included. The experimental results are in good agreement with requested values.

Abstract— This article demonstrates the validation of some elementary concepts of radar theory using a simulator based on the open-source 3D modeling software Blender. From a simply built 3D scene, it is possible to verify target detection, fading of the simulated radar signal, and features related to the system’s spatial resolution, as it is provided by the theoretical model.

This work presents design examples of coherent multiple-frequency chirp exciter for long distance L band surveillance radars. The implemented technique for pulse compression is the use of linear frequency modulation during the pulse. Long-duration linear FM pulses are obtained by the use of cascade two dispersive SAW delay lines and are converted to the desired carrier frequency. The set of all local oscillator frequencies are obtained by direct frequency synthesis method. All of the frequencies in the synthesizer are derived from the same high stability oscillator source.
