TL;DR: A new enhancer element of hepatitis B virus HBV, ENII, located in the X gene coding region and upstream of the C promoter, has been identified and showed high activity in HepG2 cells but not detectable activity in CV-1 cells.
Abstract: A new enhancer element of hepatitis B virus HBV, ENII, located in the X gene coding region and upstream of the C promoter, has been identified. As determined by deletion analysis, the sequence around nucleotides 1627 to 1732 was suggested to be essential for ENII activity. ENII was cell type specific. It showed high activity in HepG2 cells but not detectable activity in CV-1 cells. A protein-binding site was identified by footprinting in nucleotides 1648 to 1671. The minimum sequence and function of ENII are under investigation.
