A method facilitates viewing of DICOM medical images by providing a 16-bit DICOM image on a computer readable storage medium, text-converted metadata of the DICOM image and an html-compatible conversion of the DICOM pixel data on a computer readable storage medium. Pixel data of the DICOM image is converted by dividing the 16~bit image into two 8-bit color channels stored in an image referenced by a web page using a uniform resource locator. The two 8-bit color channels are later reassembled within a portable web browser according to instructions set forth in computer readable program code associated with the web page.

A system and method for processing large image files using HTML 5 employed by Web Browsers for efficiently process multiple images from the same or different sets of images by one or more client-side users contemporaneously, where the system includes a file server for storing native, processed, or partially processed, image files and meta data associated with the image files, a Web Viewer Cache for dynamic storage of such files and meta data such, a plurality of dedicated Web Servers to perform some or all of the image processing functionality, and a load balancer server dedicated to interfacing with one or more Web Browsers from client-side computers to direct, distribute and manage image retrieval and processing by the dedicated Web Servers regardless of whether a pre-fetch image processing request or a real-time image processing request has been made by the client-side computer users.

DICOM standard has been widely used, most of domestic and international medical imaging equipment such as Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Positron Emission Tomography etc. has supported DICOM standard. DICOM image contain image and image related information. Read DICOM structure by using matlab and pixel data from multi-frame image are written in to multimedia file. Numbers of images are tested from Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance, Positron Emission Tomography, Nuclear Medicine etc. All of them can be converted in to multimedia format. Converted multimedia files can fully meet the demand, which facilitate physicians for better observing the dynamic process of the examining position of patients. Therefore, Converted multimedia file helps physician to diagnosis diseases and improve diagnostic quality and efficiency.

Research on Conversion of DICOM Multi-Frame Medical Image in to Multimedia Format using MATLAB

Objective Converting DICOM Multi-frame image to multimedia format is implemented. Methods By parsing DICOM structure, using DCMTK as supportive toolkit and based on object-oriented programming, pixel data in DICOM multi-frame image are written into multimedia file. Results A lot of images are tested from different modalities such as MR, NM, XA, etc. And all of them can be converted to multimedia format very well. Conclusion Converted multimedia files can fully meet the demand, which facilitate physicians for better observing the dynamic process of the examining position of patients.
