The monitoring of the magnetic field is the most significant process for academic or industrial applications. In this study, we design a self-powered magnetic-field sensor based on the magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) and triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) that can be used for both time-varying and uniform magnetic field (UMF) sensing. This TENG-based magnetic-field sensor (TMFS) relies on contact electrification and electrostatic induction of TENG to generate an electrical signal in response to the magnetic-induced deformation of MRE without using an external power supply. Enabled by the unique sensing mechanism and excellent magnetic-induced deformation of MRE, the TMFS exhibits a fast response (20 ms) and good magnetic-field sensing performance. The TMFS with 60 wt%-MRE shows a maximum sensitivity of 16 mV mT−1 of the magnetic field ranging from 40 to 100 mT experimentally, and the sensitivity and detection range of TMFS can be adjusted by several parameters of the device. Besides the contribution to the effective detection of UMF, this novel sensor provides a new idea for the magnetic-field measurements in self-powered mode.

Magnetorheological elastomers enabled high-sensitive self-powered tribo-sensor for magnetic field detection

Much research has gone into developing advanced control algorithms for semi-active suspension. Experimental validation of these control algorithms is critical for their practical applications. This paper investigates a state-observer-based Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy controller (SOTSFC) design for a semi-active quarter-car suspension installed with a magnetorheological (MR) damper and provides proof of the effectiveness of the proposed controller. To conduct the test, a quarter-car test rig and control system hardware were used. Then, a new MR damper was designed and built to fit with the test rig. After that, the SOTSFC for the quarter-car test rig was developed. Finally, several tests were conducted on the quarter-car suspension in order to investigate the real effect of the SOTSFC. It was then compared with the use of a skyhook controller to demonstrate its benefits.

Takagi–Sugeno Fuzzy Control for Semi-Active Vehicle Suspension With a Magnetorheological Damper and Experimental Validation

With the aim of improving micro-vibration isolation, a hybrid magnetorheological elastomer-fluid (MRE-F) mount with variable stiffness and damping is presented. The proposed mechanism combines a magnetorheological elastomer stiffness unit with a magnetorheological fluid damping unit in a parallel connection. On the basis of a structural design and magnetic circuit analysis, the performance of this prototype was investigated experimentally using an MTS machine under multi-operating conditions. The field-controlled capacities, including resultant stiffness, equivalent damping, as well as the amplitude and frequency dependence were validated based on the experimental data. This work demonstrates the feasibility of applying this hybrid MRE-F mount to isolation systems with a small displacement.
