Compact Microstrip Diplexer Based on CRLH Metamaterial Concept

A separately-designable diplexer with multiple transmission zeroes (TZs) using common stub-loaded stepped impedance resonator (SIR) is proposed. The common stub-loaded SIR operating in third harmonic (f3) and fifth harmonic (f5) is used for designing the two diplexer channels. The stub is loaded at the voltage-null point of f3 of the SIR. It can separately control f5 but has no effect on f3 so that the two channels can be separately designed. Meanwhile, the input port is tap-connected to the common stub-loaded SIR, which necessarily produces a TZ between f3 and f5, existing in both channel filtering responses. By properly choosing coupling schemes of the two channels, more TZs are realized at the desired locations. Thanks to the generation of the multiple TZs, both passband selectivity and isolation between the two channels are improved significantly. For demonstration, a diplexer operating at 2.22 and 2.95 GHz is designed, fabricated, and measured. The simulated and measured results are presented, showing good agreement.

Separately-designable diplexer with multiple transmission zeroes using common stub-loaded SIR

This letter presents a novel broadband diplexer design that is capable of achieving highly stringent rejection characteristics through the use of singlets whose interconnecting irises are formulated as resonant slot irises. The combination of these two resonant-cavity types allows for a unique filtering solution with increased filter order, wide available bandwidth, low geometric complexity, and simple milling requirements, which can be suitably applied to millimeter-wave and submillimeter-wave applications. A prototype is fabricated for operation in the $W$ -band (75–110 GHz) in order to cover a 10% fractional bandwidth in each passband. Measurement of the prototype denotes highly accurate results and exemplifies the use of all resonator and coupling elements in order to support ten poles and four transmission zeros in an elegant diplexer solution.

Highly Selective Broadband mm-Wave Diplexer Design

This paper presents the design and realization of a high-yield tuning-less waveguide diplexer and a high-gain lens horn antenna for 5G point-to-point fixed-beam communications at the frequency ranges of 71/76 GHz and 81/86 GHz (E-band). The diplexer is composed of two bandpass filters based on the combination of a low-pass filtering function and a high-pass structure. The diplexer provides very relaxed fabrication tolerances. A prototype has been fabricated and measured showing return loss better than 20 dB and attenuation levels higher than 60 dB. The insertion loss is better than 1 dB. A lens horn antenna which provides more than 38 dBi gain is utilized to provide high directivity at the same frequencies. The proposed sub-system combines the advantages of high-performance and simple mechanical assembly finding, it especially attractive for 5G applications due to the reduced fabrication cost. 

High-Yield Waveguide Diplexer for Low-Cost E-band 5G Point-to-Point Radio Links

A robust and tuneless micromachined waveguide diplexer operating in the frequency range 71–86 GHz is here presented. The diplexer is based on multiple coupled cavities and it is manufactured using micromachining technology on two staked silicon layers. The diplexer consists of two filters combined to a common waveguide port via an E-plane T-junction. The two eight-order band-pass filters are centered at 73.5 and 83.5 GHz. The fractional bandwidths for two bands are 8.8 and 7.8% at higher- and lower-band, respectively. The measured insertion loss is below 0.7 dB for both the filters and the diplexer isolation is better than 55 dB, as required. The proposed technology allows for a very compact device (<20 × 20 × 1.5 mm) and the first prototypes were proved to be very robust to manufacturing tolerances and environmental tests, thus leading to an excellent tuneless manufacturing yield in future production. The diplexer will be employed in next generation terrestrial radio-link communications front-ends.
