TL;DR: In this article, a strip circuit test pattern, effects of air gaps, correction for fringing field, adaptability to different dielectric thicknesses, and the relation of the measured loaded Q to both the unloaded Q of resonant strips and the dissipation factor of the Dielectric period are discussed.
Abstract: Strip-line methods for measuring dielectric constants and loss tangent of sheet insulation, particularly of strip-line laminates, offer advantages for laboratory study and routine quality control of microwave dielectric properties at frequencies above 1 GHz. Theoretical and practical problems are discussed including possible strip circuit test patterns, effects of air gaps, correction for fringing field, adaptability to different dielectric thicknesses, and the relation of the measured loaded Q to both the unloaded Q of resonant strips and the dissipation factor of the dielectric period. Band-stop and band-pass filter test fixtures and measuring arrangements are described which are suitable for laboratory measurements or, when the filter circuit is made a permanent part of the fixture, for rapid and precise quality control testing. Dielectric properties measured at X-band (8-12 GHz) are given for a number of materials. Data are also included on the variability of copper-clad glass cloth-reinforced polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and the dependence of apparent dielectric constant on clamping pressure and test temperature.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method for cable conductor identification characterized by automatically stepping a source of an identifiable signal onto respective conductors at an identified end thereof, and synchronously stepping a co-connected counter at a remote position where a conductor is to be identified until the tone is detected on a given conductor with which the counter is also connected, and thereupon stopping the counter.
Abstract: Improved method for cable conductor identification characterized by automatically stepping a source of an identifiable signal onto respective conductors at an identified end thereof, and synchronously stepping a co-connected counter at a remote position where a conductor is to be identified until the tone is detected on a given conductor with which the counter is also connected, and thereupon stopping the counter. The counter thus identifies the conductor being monitored. Also disclosed are specific embodiments in which a plurality of conductors are identified by a plurality of counters at the remote position, as well as the structure of apparatus enabling carrying out the invention. The invention alleviates problems with propagation delay, since no feedback is required; and it allows high rates, or frequencies, of stepping while still obtaining positive identification of the conductors, since the identifiable signal and a counting signal are impressed onto conductors at the identified end concurrently within a given sub-cycle as nearly simultaneously as required by the frequency of the stepping.

TL;DR: A magnetic data viewer as discussed by the authors is a non-magnetizable board containing a plurality of sockets positioned in a fixed pattern, each of which contains a disk containing magnetically hard material which is magnetized to have a given magnetic polarity alignment.
Abstract: A magnetic data viewer device for providing a visual indication of data encoded in a magnetically encoded document, which data is represented by the magnetic polarity alignments at each of a plurality of disparate magnetized regions defining a fixed twodimensional pattern. This device is a non-magnetizable board containing a plurality of sockets positioned in a fixed pattern. The sockets each contain a disk containing magnetically hard material which is magnetized to have a given magnetic polarity alignment. At least one broad surface of the disk has a visual indicator for providing an indication of the magnetic polarity alignment of the disk. Each of the disks is visible in its socket, is restrained from movement within its socket by only the dimensions of the socket, and is movable within its socket to assume an orientation corresponding to the magnetic polarity alignment at a said magnetized region. In one preferred embodiment, the magnetically hard material of each disk is magnetized to provide a polarity alignment wherein the opposite broad surfaces of each disk have opposite magnetic polarities; the broad surface of one polarity has a visual indicator of a first color and the broad surface of the opposite polarity has a visual indicator of a second color; and each disk is movable to assume any orientation within its socket. In another preferred embodiment, the manetically hard material is magnetized to provide a polarity alignment wherein one broad surface has a pair of magnetized sections of opposite polarities having a boundary therebetween, and the opposite broad surface has a visual indicator corresponding to the boundary for indicating the orientation of the boundary. In both embodiments, each disk preferably includes uniaxially anisotropic magnetically hard material oriented to have an easy axis of magnetization perpendicular to the broad surfaces of the disk. The magnetically hard material is magnetized in the direction of this easy axis. The residual induction Br of each disk and the spacing of the sockets are so selected that, in the absence of an applied external magnetic field, the disks are attracted by each other to align themselves in a stable position wherein the broad surfaces of the disks are skewed in the sockets.
