Abstract: Leaded steel is produced by adding controlled amounts of lead shot to the stream of molten steel during the teeming operation. The process is described with a system of special hoods for the removal of lead fume by exhaust ventilation. Urinary lead values are given for exposed workers. The control system has proven very effective.

Abstract: The American Standards Association currently is considering revising specifications for audiometers used for testing hearing. The proposed Standard incorporates the hearing threshold reference levels recommended by the International Organization for Standardization instead of the American Standard normal threshold, or zero hearing loss, currently used. This article discusses a number of practical problems which adoption and application of the proposed new standard would present in relation to the technical advantages to be gained.
