TL;DR: MRI is the idealest examination for OPLL in the cervical spine and the role of MRI for diagnosing OPLL is evaluated.
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the MRI findings of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL)in the cervical spine and the role of MRI for diagnosing OPLL.Methods The MRI findings of 36 cases of OPLL in the cervical spine were retrospectively analyzed. Results The range of thickness of OPLL was 2~7 mm,average 3.9 mm.The affected range of OPLL from singal section to four sections.OPLL situated in C 3~6 level mostly. On T 1WI,OPLL exhibited low signal in 24 cases and iso-signal or high signal were seen in 12 cases. On T 2WI,OPLL exhibited low signal in 31 cases and iso-signal were seen in 5 cases.Spinal cord was compressed by OPLL in 28 cases, while 4 cases to nerve roots. There were abnormal MRI signals in spinal cord in 12 cases. Conclusion MRI is the idealest examination for OPLL in the cervical spine
