TL;DR: In this paper, a cable core made of two layers of helically wound strips of metal with one layer having a right hand lay and the other having a left hand lay is described.
Abstract: This invention is a cable core made of two layers of helically wound strips of metal with one layer having a right hand lay and the other layer having a left hand lay. The angle of lay is such that the diameter of the core changes at a faster rate than the length of the strips change with differences in temperature. This increase in the change of the core diameter makes the change correspond more closely to that of a plastic jacket or insulation that surround the core and thus avoids excessive stresses in the insulation as it cools and resulting cracking of the insulation in the case of substantial changes in temperature. The angle of lay of one layer is different from that of the other layer so as to set up restraint conditions that provide stability for the composite construction.

TL;DR: In this paper, a lifting equipment having a support structure and a boom structure mounted on the support structure with a workman's platform carried by the boom structure is described. And a control mechanism is provided which is accessible from the workmans's platform.
Abstract: Lifting equipment having a support structure and a boom structure mounted on the support structure with a workman's platform carried by the boom structure. The boom structure includes means for electrically insulating the workman's platform from the support structure. A source of light is carried by the boom structure. A control mechanism is provided which is accessible from the workmans's platform. The control mechanism has means for receiving light from the light source. At least one light guide means is carried by the boom structure and is coupled to the control mechanism whereby upon operation of the control mechanism a light from said source can be selected and introduced into the one light guide means. Photosensitive means is provided for sensing when light is introduced into the light guide means. Means is provided which is connected to the photosensitive means for operating the lifting equipment whereby the outer end of the boom structure and the workman's platform can be moved with respect to the support structure.

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved adaptor for holding in place a clip while the tool projects a fastener through the clip to fasten it to a ceiling or other structure is presented.
Abstract: Power-operated tools require an adaptor for holding in place a clip while the tool projects a fastener through the clip to fasten it to a ceiling or other structure. This improved adaptor is held on the barrel of the tool by a connection that permits the clip or the tool to be rotated into the most advantageous position, and the adaptor has a simple and easily manipulated retainer for holding the clip.

TL;DR: In this paper, a cabling machine is used to select paired bobbins from a pairing machine, stores the various bobs of a given color coding in separate compartments of a rack, and selectively discharges bobs to an elevator.
Abstract: This invention receives paired bobbins from a pairing machine, stores the various bobbins of a given color coding in separate compartments of a rack, and selectively discharges bobbins to an elevator in accordance with the demand from a cabling machine. The elevator extends for the length of the rack and receives the desired bobbins with the color coded pairs called for by remote control from the cabling machine. The compartments of the storage racks slope in a direction that cause bobbins to roll from the rack by gravity on to the elevator; and the elevator slopes to discharge bobbins by gravity to a floor conveyor that carries them to the cabling machine.

TL;DR: In this article, a series of EPDM systems were tested in sheet form for evaluation of physical properties and crosslinking behavior, and extruded under laboratory conditions over 14 AWG bare copper wire into thin wall mini-cables.
Abstract: A series of Ethylene-Propylene Diene (EPDM) compounds, designed to be transparent or translucent in nature, were formulated for the purpose of studying electro-chemical treeing, Systems were tested in sheet form for evaluation of physical properties and crosslinking behavior, and extruded under laboratory conditions over 14 AWG bare copper wire into thin wall mini-cables. Cables were then subjected to the Phelps Dodge Accelerated Treeing Test. All EPDM systems exhibited electro-chemical tree formation to some extent; trees originated at the site of contaminants and at the conductor. Treeing patterns observed are of similar appearance to those formed in Polyethylene and Crosslinked Polyethylene insulation. The nature of the EPDM systems, preparation techniques, physical prop erties and treeing effects are discussed. Results indicated that electro- chemical treeing is a phenomenon characteristic of both rubbery and semi crystalline polymeric materials.

TL;DR: In this paper, a wire and transport system for a communication cable manufacturing facility is described, where a number of full bobbins accumulate on the track, and they are transferred to an elevator that delivers them to a multi-layer inventory storage rack.
Abstract: This invention is a wire and transport system for a communication cable manufacturing facility. Bobbins wound with insulated wire roll down a bobbin track from a location where the wires are drawn and covered with a layer of insulation. A number of full bobbins accumulate on the track, and they are transferred to an elevator that delivers them to a multi-layer inventory storage rack. Final alignment of the elevator with the tracks and compartments of the inventory storage rack is under the control of electronic apparatus; but the positioning of the elevator in the vicinity of the selected track or storage compartment is controlled by an operator who rides on a carriage on which the elevator shaft is mounted.

TL;DR: In this article, a self-contained unit with a clamp section on a screw that moves into or out of a handle as the handle is rotated one way or the other to move the clamp section with respect to an end face of the handle against which the clamps the cable.
Abstract: This apparatus provides a temporary means for securing and holding a cable to enable a workman to maneuver for lashing and/or installing equipment into place. The apparatus is a self-contained unit with a clamp section on a screw that moves into or out of a handle as the handle is rotated one way or the other to move the clamp section with respect to an end face of the handle against which the clamp section clamps the cable.

TL;DR: In this article, the insulation is extruded over a cable core and extruded it in superimposed layers which fuse to one another to prevent formation of voids within the insulation.
Abstract: Electrical cables that carry higher voltage require insulation of greater thickness This invention extrudes the insulation over a cable core and extrudes it in superimposed layers which fuse to one another to prevent formation of voids within the insulation The insulation applied in each superimposed layer increases the impulse breakdown stress in volts per mil of insulation thickness A high voltage cable for any given voltage can, therefore, have a thinner insulation if the insulation is applied in layers according to this invention instead of being applied in a single layer in accordance with the practice of the prior art

TL;DR: In this article, a closed loop conveyor is used to convey full and empty bobbins between different locations in a manufacturing facility for making communication cables, where most of the manual handling of the bobins is eliminated by having a closed-loop conveyor on to which bobsins are loaded and from which babbins are ejected at selected locations; and the invention provides lift members for automatically spacing the bumbs on the conveyor at a location between a loading station and the next ejector.
Abstract: This invention conveys full and empty bobbins between different locations in a manufacturing facility for making communication cables. Most of the manual handling of the bobbins is eliminated by having a closed loop conveyor on to which bobbins are loaded and from which bobbins are ejected at selected locations; and the invention provides lift members for automatically spacing the bobbins on the conveyor at a location between a loading station and the next ejector. The spacing is accomplished while the conveyor is in continuous motion.
