TL;DR: The Interaction Theorem of functional organizations as discussed by the authors is a management theorem for those who wish to avoid the unpleasantness Old Nick had in mind and use it to validate four rules for organizational stasis useful to stifle innovation from above.
Abstract: After much of what I loosely call thought, I offer, only somewhat facetiously, a powerful management theorem for those who wish to avoid the unpleasantness Old Nick had in mind. 1 call it the Interaction Theorem of functional organizations and use it to validate four rules for organizational stasis useful to stifle innovation from above. I use it again to show how to stifle from below by functionalizing OR/MS itself. I contend that any organization which diligently observes these practices shall never have to suffer the agonies that rapid growth in scope, influence, and revenues can bring.
