TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined a selection of gaming websites, to consider their pre-release Cyberpunk 2077 coverage and the discrepancies between these early reports and the released game.
Abstract: Cyberpunk 2077's negative reception stood in striking contrast to the pre-release hype around the video game built by the producer's marketing campaign and the gaming press. This study examines a selection of gaming websites, to consider their pre-release Cyberpunk 2077 coverage and the discrepancies between these early reports and the released game. Using inductive conventional content analysis, framed as thematic analysis, 148 press articles were investigated divided into nine subcategories, and three categories. These articles told an almost exclusively positive narrative, promising great performance and features. The uncritical reception of publisher information by journalists allows the authors to propose the notion of “broken promises marketing”. The article contextualizes this term in the gaming ecosystem, arguing that over-optimistic marketing is amplified through features of the online press ecology. Finally, the results are considered from a business ethics perspective, with a set of communications recommendations for both journalists and game publishers.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors Olga Tokarczuk and Daniel Kehlmann are compared in four domains: applied genres and genre attributions, themes and problems addressed, literary language and stylistic originality, and finally, positions in the literary field that depend on the above-mentioned categories and include self-definition, habitus, critical reception and political beliefs.
Abstract: Olga Tokarczuk and Daniel Kehlmann are prominent writers and influential figures of cultural life in Poland and in German-speaking countries, respectively. Both also have gained international recognition, primarily due to successful translations and literary awards. Their works have been compared in four domains: applied genres and genre attributions, themes and problems addressed, literary language and stylistic originality, and finally, positions in the literary field that depend on the above-mentioned categories and include self-definition, habitus, critical reception and political beliefs. Both writers occupy remarkable places in their literary fields, between the partly autonomous sector of aesthetic literature and the vast area of the popular fiction with its commercial goals.

TL;DR: In this article , a 3D-printed hand exoskeleton was developed to provide physiological ranges of movement and finger strength support at a level at least half that of healthy fingers, as well as taking it to the clinical trial phase.
Abstract: The article addresses the development of an innovative mechanical and information technology (IT) solution in the form of a three-dimensional (3D) printed hand exoskeleton, enabling the rehabilitation of people with special needs (with the participation of physiotherapists). The design challenges and their solutions are presented in the example of the own design of a prototype mechanical rehabilitation robot (a hand exoskeleton) to support the rehabilitation process of people with a lack of mobility in the hand area (both as a result of disease and injury). The aim of this paper is to develop the author’s concept for a hand exoskeleton developed within an interdisciplinary team during the design work to date. The problem solved in the study was to develop a five-finger 3D-printed hand exoskeleton providing physiological ranges of movement and finger strength support at a level at least half that of healthy fingers, as well as taking it to the clinical trial phase. The novelty is not only an interdisciplinary approach but also focuses on developing not only prototypes but a solution ready for implementation in the market and clinical practice. The contribution includes the strong scientific and technical, social, and economic impact of the exoskeleton on the hand due to the fact that any deficit in hand function is strongly felt by the patient, and any effective way to improve it is expected in the market. The concept of the hand exoskeleton presented in the article combines a number of design and simulation approaches, experimentally verified mechanical solutions (a proposed artificial muscle, 3D printing techniques and materials, and possibly other types of effectors supported by sensors), and IT (new control algorithms), along with the verification of assumptions with a group of medical specialists, including in laboratory and clinical settings. The proposed specification of the hand exoskeleton offers personalised dimensions (adapted to the dimensions of the user’s hand, as well as the type and level of hand function deficit), weight (approximately 100–150 g, depending on the dimensions), personalised actuators (described above), all degrees of freedom of the healthy hand (in the absence of defects), and the time to close and open the hand of approximately 3–5 s, depending on the level and degree of deficit.

TL;DR: The Books of Jacob (Księgi Jakubowe), published in 2014, is Olga Tokarczuk's masterpiece as mentioned in this paper , a monumental epic novel, in which the writer re(de)constructs the multifaceted heritage of Jacob Frank (1726-1791), the Polish-Jewish non-orthodox religious leader living between the Kingdom of Poland, Ottoman Turkey and Habsburg Empire.
Abstract: The Books of Jacob (Księgi Jakubowe), published in 2014, is Olga Tokarczuk’s masterpiece – a monumental epic novel, in which the writer re(de)constructs the multifaceted heritage of Jacob Frank (1726–1791), the Polish-Jewish non-orthodox religious leader living between the Kingdom of Poland, Ottoman Turkey and Habsburg Empire. Religious conversion, syncretism and heterodoxy, so characteristic of the Frankist movement, are artistically transformed by the Polish Nobel Prize winner. The unusual reference point in this chapter is Dictionary of the Khazars (1984) by the Serbian writer Milorad Pavić, a novel in the form of imagined lexicon of an Asian tribe that had also lived on the borderland of three monotheistic religions. Both analyzed novels have a strong connection to the most heated discussions in the contemporary Humanities and postcolonial studies. This article proves that approaching the issues of religious conversion and building of the new communal and spiritual identities in a multicultural environment are a point of convergence in the work of the Polish and Serbian writer.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with the journalists representing top-tier Polish media and used inductive conventional content analysis to assess how esports is assessed by traditional sports and esports journalists.
Abstract: Researchers often use traditional sports’ theoretical frameworks to evaluate esports’ ‘genuineness’. Therefore, this article shows how esports is assessed by traditional sports and esports journalists and how this is important for esports research. We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews (n = 15) with the journalists representing top-tier Polish media and used inductive conventional content analysis. Three main analytical categories and ten subcategories indicate how the two types of journalists differ in their assessments of esports being or not being ‘real’ sport. The results highlight how problematic it is to use traditional sports as a frame into which esports needs to fit. We indicate the misconceptions of this approach and propose more inductive ones (e.g. searching for esports’ distinct frameworks or revealing those used by different groups or communities). Also, our research has some practical implications and is a kind of ‘map’ showing the esports’ new quality and its complex nature.

TL;DR: In this article , the response of Ga and Al sublattices to the incorporation of mismatching substituents in Gd3Al2Ga3O12:Ce single crystals was revealed.
Abstract: This research revealed the response of Ga and Al sublattices to the incorporation of mismatching substituents in Gd3Al2Ga3O12:Ce single crystals. Incompatible in size and charge, Li+ and Mg2+ substituents violated configurational entropy. This led to lattice distortion and triggered structural rearrangements. The radial fluctuation of the Ga and Al elements was proven by multi-elemental energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy mapping and elemental composition analysis. Further evidence was observed by the shift of the exciton creation energy toward higher energy in the vacuum ultraviolet excitation spectra recorded with synchrotron radiation. In the Li+ and Mg2+ co-doped samples, the crystal core was depleted with Ga atoms and enriched with Al elements. The crystal rim showed the opposite behavior. The change in thermoluminescence peak positions revealed a different mechanism for the formation of localized traps. As a result, Li+ co-doping slightly improved the light yield value, but at the same time decelerated the scintillation decay time. On the contrary, Mg2+ co-doping markedly diminished scintillation parameters.
