TL;DR: Observations show that, in this tissue, desmosomes are able to maintain their characteristic positions along the plasma membrane after disconnection of the intermediate filament cytoskeleton, which indicates that maintenance of desmosomal integrity and position is independent of Desmosome anchorage to tonofilaments.
