Abstract: A combustion system comprising a tubular structure having an upstream end and defining within it a longitudinal passage. A tubular wall surrounding the structure and defining with the structure a further longitudinal passage, of annular cross section. The tubular structure having longitudinally extending, circumferentially spaced staves and longitudinally spaced coaxial hoops for the passage of fluid, the hoops being shaped to deflect substantially axially flowing fluid either inwards or outwards through the openings for discharge either inside or outside the assembly respectively.
