TL;DR: In this paper, a hydraulic control system for automatic transmissions having hydraulic servos for actuating friction engagement means comprises an oil pump for producing an oil pressure to be supplied to the servos, a pressure regulator valve for producing a desired line pressure in dependence on the speed and the output of an engine, a 2-3 shift valve for accomplishing shift between the second and a third speed condition, an accumulator unit for slowing down supply of the line pressure to a servo for the third speed, a two-3 timing valve for providing the timing of the up-shift or the
Abstract: A hydraulic control system for automatic transmissions having hydraulic servos for actuating friction engagement means comprises an oil pump for producing an oil pressure to be supplied to the servos, a pressure regulator valve for producing a desired line pressure in dependence on the speed and the output of an engine, a throttle valve for producing a throttle pressure corresponding to the throttle valve opening of the engine, a governor valve for producing a governor pressure corresponding to the engine speed, a manual valve for selectively distributing the line pressure to the servos, a 1-2 shift valve for accomplishing shift between a first and a second speed condition in dependence on the running condition of the vehicle controlled by the throttle pressure and the governor pressure, a 2-3 shift valve for accomplishing shift between the second and a third speed condition, an accumulator unit for slowing down supply of the line pressure to the servo for the third speed, a 2-3 timing valve for providing the timing of the up-shift or the down-shift between the second and third speed condition and an orifice control valve for controlling supply of the line pressure to the servo for the second speed. The supply of the line pressure to the servo for the third speed upon upshift from the second speed condition to the third speed condition is slowed down by the accumulator unit and the time for exhausting the servo for the second speed is determined by the 2-3 timing valve whereby an overlap of engagement and disengagement of the friction engagement means is provided. The overlap may be varied in dependence on the throttle pressure. Upon downshift from the third speed condition to the second speed condition, the servo for the third speed is relieved of pressure, and the 2-3 timing valve determines the time for supplying the line pressure to the servo for the second speed in dependence on the throttle pressure. Further the orifice control valve controls flow of the line pressure so that a desired overlap may be provided as in the case of upshift.

TL;DR: In this paper, a disclosed apparatus detects an imminent collision between a vehicle and an object, by orienting respective receiver and transmitter antennas, mounted on the vehicle, so their patterns intersect and form a crash detecting zone just ahead of the vehicle.
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus detects an imminent collision between a vehicle and an object, by orienting respective receiver and transmitter antennas, mounted on the vehicle, so their patterns intersect and form a crash detecting zone just ahead of the vehicle, and by deriving the relative speed between the vehicle and the object in the crash zone from an undulatory signal radiated by the transmitter antenna and the reflected undulatory signal received from the object. A generator, a directional coupler, and a detector all associated with the antennas, derive the relative speed between the vehicle and the object on the basis of homodyne detection of the transmitted undulatory signals and the reflected undulatory signals. The presence of the objects within the crash zone is indicated by receipt of an undulatory signal above a given level. When both relative speed and level exceed their respective threshold values, threshold circuits issue signals. An AND circuit responds to the signals and actuates a safety device such as an air bag for protecting passengers. To prevent erroneous actuation of the safety device when the vehicle and the object are on course passing each other, antennas on the left and right sides of the vehicle receive reflected signals and form respective Doppler frequencies. A divider determines the relative angle between the vehicle and the object by calculating the ratio of these Doppler frequencies. When the ratio exceeds a predetermined value, comparators direct a signal to disable the AND circuit.

TL;DR: In this paper, a hydraulic control system contains a hydraulic pressure source for producing hydraulic pressure supplied into the hydraulic servo mechanisms of a hydraulic automatic transmission, the hydraulic pressure is conveyed through a conduit system to a manual distributing valve which distributes the hydraulic force in accordance with its position in various ranges.
Abstract: A hydraulic control system contains a hydraulic pressure source for producing hydraulic pressure supplied into the hydraulic servo mechanisms of a hydraulic automatic transmission, the hydraulic pressure is conveyed through a conduit system to a manual distributing valve which distributes the hydraulic pressure in accordance with its position in the various ranges ''''P'''', ''''R'''', ''''N'''', ''''D'''' and ''''L'''', a pressure regulator valve is located in the conduit system for establishing a line pressure by regulating the hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic pressure source, a governor valve in communication with a change-over valve and with a shift valve provides a governor pressure conforming to the vehicle speed, and a throttle valve is located in the conduit system for obtaining a throttle pressure conforming to the engine throttle opening. The shift valve supplies the line pressure to the required servo mechanism by comparing the governor pressure and the throttle pressure, and the change-over valve supplies the throttle pressure to the pressure regulator valve in accordance with the governor pressure. When the manual distributing valve is in the ''''R'''' range and the engine throttle opening is extremely small, the line pressure from the manual distributing valve is discharged and controlled in the throttle valve to take out a relatively low throttle pressure. When the throttle opening exceeds a predetermined value, the throttle valve takes out the line pressure from the pressure regulator valve as it is, thus obtaining a constant high throttle pressure. When the manual distributing valve is in the ''''D'''' range, the throttle pressure is applied to the pressure regulator valve through the changeover valve. When the throttle pressure is low, the line pressure of the pressure regulator valve is reduced, and when the throttle pressure is high, the line pressure thereof is increased. Furthermore, as the governor pressure is supplied to the changeover valve, the throttle pressure applied to the pressure regulator valve at a vehicle speed below a predetermined value, is shut off by means of the changeover valve, thus obtaining a constant low line pressure. Moreover, when the manual distributing valve is shifted from the ''''D'''' to the ''''L'''' range, this valve communicates the line pressure with the pressure regulator valve and, therefore, a high line pressure is produced by the pressure regulator valve, having no relationship with the vehicle speed and the engine throttle opening.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a collision-sensing or crash detector for inflating a safety bag which forms a protective cushion in a vehicle for passengers including a compressed air source which is connected to the protective air bag through two separate connecting lines.
Abstract: A device for inflating a safety bag which forms a protective cushion in a vehicle for passengers includes a compressed air source which is connected to the protective air bag through two separate connecting lines. Each line is controlled by a valve which is operated either by a collision-sensing or crash detector. One of the detectors is set to operate the valve at a first condition in which a collision is sensed and it provides an inflation of a bag at a predetermined rate which is less than the passage flow rate through the second valve controlled passage. The second valve is controlled by a separate detector which is set to operate at a higher value or at a distinct collisionsensing condition, for example, at the condition of actual impact, or after a predetermined first collision condition has been achieved. The collision conditions are measured, for example, by accelerometers. The arrangement is such that both flow passages, or at least one flow passage, will provide for an air connection to the bag to provide rapid inflation of the bag to protect the passenger as necessary.

TL;DR: In this article, the shift valve is connected through a passage having a flow restricting orifice therein to the second servo, and is also connected to the orifice control valve, which latter is in communication with the first servo.
Abstract: A hydraulic control system, for transmissions in which the high speed range is obtained by supplying oil under pressure into a first hydraulic servo while discharging the oil from a second hydraulic servo, and the low speed range is obtained by supplying oil under pressure to the second hydraulic servo while discharging oil from the first hydraulic servo, includes a source of hydraulic fluid under pressure, a pressure regulator valve, a governor valve, a throttle valve, a shift valve an orifice, an orifice control valve and an accumulator. The shift valve is connected to the source of regulated pressure and to exhaust, and directly controls supply and exhaust fluid relative to the first servo. The shift valve is connected through a passage having a flow restricting orifice therein to the second servo, and is also connected to the orifice control valve, which latter is in communication with the second servo. The orifice control valve has a first position blocking direct communication between the shift valve and the second servo and a second position by-passing the flow restricting orifice and establishing direct communication between the shift valve and the second servo. The orifice control valve is subjected to the throttle pressure and the pressure in the first hydraulic servo, acting in opposition. When shifting from low speed to high speed, the orifice control valve has its second position so that the pressure in the second servo is slowly decreased while the pressure in the first servo is rapidly increased. The increased pressure in the first servo moves the orifice control valve to its second position so that pressure is rapidly exhausted from the second servo after the pressure in the first servo has attained a predetermined value. In shifting from high speed to low speed, oil is rapidly discharged from the first servo to rapidly decrease the pressure therein, with the orifice control valve initially occupying its second position so that the pressure in the second servo is rapidly increased. As the pressure in the first servo decreases, the orifice control valve is moved, by the throttle pressure, back to its first position to decrease the rate of increase of the pressure in the second servo.
