TL;DR: In this article, the results of a diagnostic test of student difficulty and contrasts the difference in performance between the lower attaining quartile and the higher quartile were compared, illustrating a theory that those who fail are performing a more difficult type of mathematics (coordinating procedures) than those who succeed (manipulating concepts).
Abstract: This study considers the results of a diagnostic test of student difficulty and contrasts the difference in performance between the lower attaining quartile and the higher quartile. It illustrates a difference in qualitative thinking between those who succeed and those who fail in mathematics, illustrating a theory that those who fail are performing a more difficult type of mathematics (coordinating procedures) than those who succeed (manipulating concepts). Students who have to coordinate or reverse processes in time will encounter far greater difficulty than those who can manipulate symbols in a flexible way. The consequences of such a dichotomy and implications for remediation are then considered.

TL;DR: In this article, the distribution of heavy and trace elements in coastal sediments was obtained by elemental analysis techniques such as INAA and GFAAS, and the elemental concentrations were expressed in terms of enrichment factors derived by the elemental ratioing method, and evaluation was done by comparison to those found in SRMs.
Abstract: The distribution of heavy and trace elements in coastal sediments was obtained by elemental analysis techniques such as INAA and GFAAS. The elemental concentrations were expressed in terms of enrichment factors derived by the elemental ratioing method, and evaluation was done by comparison to those found in SRMs. The associated sources of polluting elements were traced from their distribution patterns and, where applicable, related to the surrounding activities. Sample to sample variation was also taken into account to establish any correlative factors.

TL;DR: In this article, the linear and nonlinear elastic properties of single crystals of f.c.n.d. alloys with compositions Mn73Ni27, Mn80.5Ni19.5 and Mn84Ni16 have been determined as a function of temperature and pressure on both sides of the Nee1 temperature.
Abstract: The linear and nonlinear elastic properties of single crystals of f.c.c. γ-manganese-nickel alloys with compositions Mn73Ni27, Mn80.5Ni19.5 and Mn84Ni16 have been studied using ultrasonic pulse-echo techniques. The elastic stiffness tensor components of Mn73Ni27 have been determined as a function of temperature and pressure on both sides of the Nee1 temperature. The longitudinal moduli c 11, and c L(= (c 11 + c 22 + 2c 44)/2) and the bulk modulus B S O are larger in the antiferromagnetic than in the paramagnetic state; the reverse is true for the shear stiffness c 44 and c′(= (c 11 - c 12)/2). The hydrostatic pressure derivatives (∂c IJ/∂P) P= 0, of the elastic stiffness tensor components have been measured in both the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic states of Mn73Ni27. In the antiferromagnetic state (∂c 11/∂P) P=0, and (∂c′/∂P) P=0, increase with temperature, while (∂c 44/∂P) P=0 decreases; in the paramagnetic state (∂c 11/∂P) P = 0 and in consequence (∂B S O/∂P) P=0 are much smaller. TL;DR: In this article, real-time self-tuning control was implemented on a coupled tank pilot plant using a microcomputer and three different algorithms namely, generalized minimum variance, pore placement and extended horizon were used.
Abstract: Real-time self tuning control was implemented on a coupled tank pilot plant using a microcomputer. Three different algorithms namely, generalized minimum variance, pore placement and extended horizon were used. The performances of these controllers are evaluated for set-point tracking experiments and load disturbance experiments. >

TL;DR: An overview of the Malaysian land use planning system in relation to environmental management can be found in this article, where some suggestions to accommodate the future needs which include institutional changes pertaining to the issues of consolidation of various relevant laws and planning education are proposed.
Abstract: The paper presents an overview of the Malaysian land use planning system in relation to environmental management. Its capabilities and weaknesses are elucidated. Some suggestions to accommodate the future needs which include institutional changes pertaining to the issues of consolidation of various relevant laws and planning education are proposed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a major revamping of the management and future planning of the country's water resources are needed to prevent future problems which might curtail economic growth as well as be detrimental to the health of the population.
Abstract: The industrialization and urbanization of Malaysia as it strives for developed nation status demand large quantities of water. Unfortunately the growth of human settlements as well as industries within watershed areas not only jeopardizes the quantity but the quality of the water. Major revamping of the management and the future planning of the country's water resources are needed to prevent future problems which might curtail economic growth as well as be detrimental to the health of the population.
