TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of Quizlet, a rapidly growing application with an online and mobile phone version, on vocabulary acquisition in low-level EFL learners at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia.
Abstract: This study concerns with the major objective of foreign language teaching: vocabulary acquisition. The modern trends of teaching and the vast advance of technology enable teachers to use online and mobile applications in a very wide range. The real effect of using such a method need to be measured. Accordingly, this experimental-design study investigated the effect of Quizlet, a rapidly growing application with an online and mobile phone version, on vocabulary acquisition. Two groups of low-level EFL learners at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia ( N = 42) participated in the study. Each group underwent a pretest and a posttest to assess their acquisition of the assigned vocabulary lessons that were extracted from their syllabus. After using Quizlet for vocabulary learning for a month, the experimental group participants show a significant improvement in vocabulary posttest. Accordingly, the study acknowledges and recommends using the application at university level

TL;DR: The study found that mobile devices are finding their way into classrooms in children’s pockets, and it must ensure that educational practice can include these technologies in productive ways.
Abstract: Mobile is a significant tool that supports and integrates effectively in enhancing the language skills due to its features such as accessibility, interactivity, immediacy, permanency, situating of instructional activities. This paper investigates the phenomenon and the impact of Mobile Assisted Language Learning on English language skills. It also explores the salient features and drawbacks of Mobile Assisted Language Learning. In addition, it tries to shed light on the current perspectives and the future of Mobile Assisted Language Learning. The study found that mobile devices are finding their way into classrooms in children’s pockets, and we must ensure that educational practice can include these technologies in productive ways. The study recommends that studies on the impact of Mobile on English language skills and get its maximum benefits for English language learning and teaching.

TL;DR: This paper tries to elaborate some points to be considered by teachers of young learners in teaching English as a foreign language to young learners.
Abstract: Teaching English as a foreign language to young learners needs special approach since young learners have special characteristics. It is stated that the improvement of abilities to learn foreign language is started from the early age. If teachers don’t use appropriate teaching methods to teach English to young learners, the achievement of learning process may not work well. That is way, in order to be successful in teaching English for young learners, it is quite necessary for teachers to comprehend young learners’ characteristics. It is important because it will influence how a teacher creates a lesson appropriate with young learners’ characteristics. This paper tries to elaborate some points to be considered by teachers of young learners in teaching English as a foreign language. TL;DR: In this article, a study aimed at analyzing the extent to which teachers' approaches in teaching literature is understood among teachers and students in the Malaysian schools, and explored the manner in which teacher and school related variables respond against approaches employed by the teachers in teaching the literature.
Abstract: There is very little research which uses ‘process perspectives of what is really happening in the classrooms.’ This research has a five-pronged purposes; therefore, it is expected that this study can contribute to the field of study especially teaching literature for school students. Research was done by way of survey questionnaire, classroom observations, interviews and expert check list. The respondents of the questionnaire were teachers who teach English in schools. These teachers were involved in teaching the Literature in English. A series of classroom observations were carried out by the researcher. This was conducted in randomly selected schools every week. Thus, the researcher observed 13 lessons with three sets of lessons each for a period of four weeks. Teachers, namely English option and non-English option from National schools and National Type schools, which consist of Chinese and Tamil schools from all the 7 districts in the state of Negeri Sembilan was observed three times each . The same sample was interviewed to ensure validity and reliability of the results obtained from the classroom observation and survey questionnaire results. To this end, the study aimed at analyzing the extent to which teachers’ approaches in teaching literature is understood among teachers and students in the Malaysian schools. In addition, the study aimed at exploring, through field investigations, the manner in which teacher and school related variables respond against approaches employed by the teachers in teaching the literature. Ultimately, its findings are meant to help teachers, researchers, key educational policy-makers and other education experts, to explore possibilities of developing more effective ways of utilizing active learning approaches at school level.Apart from that, the study is to gather a general overview on the approaches employed by teachers in teaching the English Literature in schools. It is essential to look at the approaches the teachers use to teach literature in their respective classrooms. The findings would provide useful information for the Ministry of Education to identify the current literature teaching situation in the ESL classroom. The findings of the study will also provide valuable information for the Ministry of Education to examine and counter-act on the discrepancy, if there is any, so that the teaching of the English Literature component in schoolscan serve its function well. The study will also open up ways for future researchers to conduct in-depth studies on the methodological aspects of the teaching of the English Literature in schools. In doing so, it is hoped that teachers will be able to contribute to more effective teaching and learning of the teaching of the English Literature in schools in the ESL context.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the students' understanding about some aspects of the chemical bond and to determine their related misconceptions, such as the interpretation of some properties of substances (colour, boiling points, solubility and conductivity), intra and intermolecular forces, hydrogen bonding, covalent and molecular networks, geometry and polarity of molecules, are investigated.
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to investigate the students' understanding about some aspects of the chemical bond and to determine their related misconceptions. Concretely, topics such as the interpretation of some properties of substances (colour, boiling points, solubility and conductivity), intra and intermolecular forces, hydrogen bonding, covalent and molecular networks, geometry and polarity of molecules, are investigated. The research methodology used has been a questionnaire consisting on 15 multiple choice questions as a diagnostic tool. The questionnaire was applied to 79 high school students (17-18 years old) from six different secondary schools in Valencia (Spain) and 99 first-year undergraduate students of Chemistry and Pharmacy degrees at the University of Valencia (19-20 years old). In the light of the obtained results, the main misconceptions observed are: to attribute macroscopic properties to particles; incorrect prediction of boiling points; to perceive ionic compounds as being formed by molecules; misunderstanding the nature of the hydrogen bond and assuming that it is established in any molecule containing hydrogen together with nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine, regardless if the hydrogen atom is directly bonded to these atoms or not; confusing the geometry of a molecule with its distribution of electron pairs around the central atom; and, finally, a wrong prediction of the polarity of molecules. Suggestions that could be accommodated in normal classrooms, are made in order to improve learning.
