TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed examination of combining ability in relation to diallel crossing systems is made, and eight different analyses are presented, with two alternative assumptions with regard to the sampling nature of the experimental material.
Abstract: A detailed examination of the concept of combining ability in relation to diallel crossing systems is made. Eight different analyses aro presented. 'l'hese result from a consideration of four different diallel crossing systems together wit.h two alternative assumptions with regard to the sampling nature of tho experimental material. A numerical example is given.

TL;DR: The relative turgidity technique as discussed by the authors compares the initial and turgid water contents, on a percentage basis, of disks punched from leaves, the turgity water content being obtained by floating the disks on water.
Abstract: The relative turgidity technique consists in comparing the initial and turgid water contents, on a percentage basis, of disks punched from leaves, the turgid water content being obtained by floating the disks on water.

TL;DR: It is considered that the evidence so far put forward for the fertilization in vitro of mammalian eggs is inconclusive, and attempts made to effect the fertilizing of the mammalian egg in vitro are terminated.
Abstract: A brief review is given of the literature, particularly that relating to the attempts made to effect the fertilization of the mammalian egg in vitro. It is considered that the evidence so far put forward for the fertilization in vitro of mammalian eggs is inconclusive.

TL;DR: Methods of setting automatic digital computers to simulate the algebraic aspects of reproduction, segregation, and selection and the application of these methods to the problem of the importance of linkage in multifactorial inheritance is illustrated by results from the SILLIAC.
Abstract: Methods of setting automatic digital computers to simulate the algebraic aspects of reproduction, segregation, and selection are discussed. The application of these methods to the problem of the importance of linkage in multifactorial inheritance is illustrated by results from the SILLIAC.

TL;DR: The use of vertical pins or point quadrats in the analysis of vegetation, and the statistical treatment of results obtained with them, are discussed on the basis of data collected in different parts of Victoria.
Abstract: The use of vertical pins or point quadrats in the analysis of vegetation, and the statistical treatment of results obtained with them, are discussed on the basis of data collected in different parts of Victoria. Results are expressed in terms of the proportion of the ground covered by each species ("percentage cover"), the average number of layers of foliage covering each point of ground ("cover repetition"), and the proportion of each species in the vegetation as· a whole ("percentage of sward").
