Abstract: In this paper,an empirical analysis is given on the total factor energy efficiency of China's 28 provinces in 1995—2006 by making use of CRS-SU-DEA model based on the input orientationThe total factor energy efficiency' convergence of China and four regions is also examinedAnd then based on the economic structure and the energy factor,Tobit model is used to test the determinants of total factor energy efficiency in China and four regionsThe empirical results show that the total factor energy efficiency, which consider the pollution emissions,is more scientific and tell the truth of economic developmentIt is clear that industrial structure, the property right structure, the structure of energy consumption as well as the resources talent variable have remarkable negative influence on total factor energy efficiencyThe price of energy has a weak forward influence on total factor energy efficiency

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper empirically analyzed the relationship between political connection and firm performance, and found that the higher rate of the political connection of the private enterprises, the worse performance it will have.
Abstract: Using a sample of Chinese private enterprises that went public between 2002 and 2006,this paper empirically analyzes the relationship between political connection and firm performance. After controlling the endogenous issue of political connection and firm performance,we discovered that the higher rate of the political connection of the private enterprises, the worse performance it will be.Moreover, the higher degree of political connection the enterpriser possesses, the worse firm performance it will lead.Further study discovered that different institutional situations affect the relation of political connection and firm performance differently. With the weakening government interference and a strengthening legal protection, the negative impact of firm political connection on its performance has been lightened.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of environmental regulation on efficiency of the thermal power in 30 provinces of China 2004, including autonomous regions and municipalities, was analyzed based on the efficiency, which demonstrated that environment regulation can improve the efficiency of Chinese thermal power as a whole, however, which is not suitable for every region.
Abstract: Based on the efficiency, the paper analyses the impact of environmental regulation on efficiency of the thermal power in 30 provinces of China 2004, including autonomous regions and municipalities. First, the effects of environment and statistical noise are excluded. Then, the relationship between the level of environment regulation and the efficiency of Chinese thermal power is studied according to non-regulation, weak-regulation and strong-regulation. The results demonstrate that environment regulation can improve the efficiency of Chinese thermal power as a whole, however, which isn't suitable for every region. In the end, three different developing modes are proposed, which are environment friendly promoted by internal force, weak environment friendly and environment friendly promoted by external force. According to the three modes, three different regulation tendencies are also put forward.

TL;DR: Based on the classic CSR theory of triple bottom line and stakeholders, this article developed a "four in one" model which consists of responsibility management, economic, social and environmental responsibility.
Abstract: Based on the classic CSR theory of triple bottom line and stakeholders, this paper develops a "four in one" model which consists of responsibility management, economic, social and environmental responsibility. By analyzing the major international CSR indexes, national CSR initiatives and CSR reports of Fortune 500, we build the index systems of CSR evaluation for different industries, and then evaluate the level of responsibility management and CSR information disclosure of top 100 companies in China, according to the information from CSR reports, annual reports and official sites. This paper concludes that:①the level of responsibility management and CSR information disclosure of 2/3 Chinese top 100 is low; ②the performance of responsibility management is poorer that of responsibility practices; ③the CSR index of central enterprises and state-owned financial companies is far higher than that of private, other state-owned and overseas-funded enterprises; ④firm size is in direct proportion to CSR index; ⑤the CSR indexes of different industrials are distinct, that the grid industry and electric power industry are leaders, however, the majority industries are still at the stage of participation.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors used listed companies with A-share in China as a sample and examined whether and how operating risk affects the efficiency of corporate executive promotion incentive and found that promotion incentive is more efficient when the noise in performance measurement is large and suggest that compensation regulation on SOEs will restrict the choice of incentive contracts, and strengthening monitoring can make up for the inefficiency of incentive contract.
Abstract: The paper uses listed companies with A-share in China as sample and examines whether and how operating risk affects the efficiency of corporate executive promotion incentive We find that: ①the efficiency of executive promotion incentive is positively correlated with operating risk; ②the correlation for SOEs is weaker than that for private companies; ③the correlation for SOEs controlled directly by government is weaker than that for those controlled indirectly The results support the theory that promotion incentive is more efficient when the noise in performance measurement is large and suggest that compensation regulation on SOEs will restrict the choice of incentive contracts, and the strengthening monitoring can make up for the inefficiency of incentive contract

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper suggested that sustaining the rapid economic growth in China requires building a domestic flying geese model so that the central and western regions can carry on the comparative advantage in labor-intensive industries.
Abstract: Before and in the time when the global financial crisis hit the real economy of China, there has appeared a change in regional growth pattern of industries——that is, industrial outputs in central and western regions have grown relatively faster than that in the eastern regions. In the same time, suffering from labor costs rise and sharp drop in orders of exports, the industries in coastal areas seem to lose their role as major driver of the Chinese economic growth. However, based on empirical studies, this paper shows that the current changes in regional pattern of industrial growth, or the trends of industrial relocation, are mainly the results of central government's implementation of favorable policies and biased investment. That formed the industrial structure, which are dominated by heavy industries and inconsistent with the regions'resources endowments. This paper suggests that sustaining the rapid economic growth in China requires building a domestic flying geese model so that the central and western regions can carry on the comparative advantage in labor-intensive industries. The urgent challenge facing implementation of regional development strategies is to transform the government intervention and investment-oriented mode to comparative advantage-following and market-oriented mode, so as to make the industrial relocation of industries become upgrading process of all eastern, central and western regions altogether.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed two fundamental targets for implementing government regulation of resource and environment: the first target is to realize the feasible objective of resource conservation and environmental protection; the other one is to maintain an effective and fair competition order.
Abstract: The reason why the material on the earth is distinguished into "resource" and "waste" is depended on the level of industrial technology and industrial-scale needs. If there was no industrial technology, most of the material on the earth couldn't be called "resource"; but as long as the industrial technology gets to a certain level, everything on the earth and even in the space could become "resource". Finishing the industrialization history firmly and efficiently is the only viable option to extricate human from the resource predicament. Nowadays,it is the hard time for the industrial development of China which is in the serious situation of resource and environment. The fact that industrial activities are becoming cleaner does not mean that the industrial production has reached a satisfactory level in the aspects of resource conservation and environmental protection. On the contrary, still being in the middle of industrialization process, China must continue developing heavy industrialization with the costs of large-scale depletion of natural resources. The industrial production of China is still facing the serious problem of resources waste and environment pollution. Therefore, strengthening the government regulation on resources and environment and impreving the regulation effectiveness is still an extremely important and heavy question in the present industrialization process of China. There are two fundamental targets for implementing government regulation of resource and environment. The first target is to realize the feasible objective of resource conservation and environmental protection; the other one is to maintain an effective and fair competition order. An effective and feasible way to regulate resources and environment should not only ensure the realization of policy goals on resource conservation and environmental protection, but also. contribute to enhance the long-term competitiveness of industries and enterprises, especially help to strengthen the international competitiveness of China's industry under the rules of fair competition. Moderate and rational regulation intensity should not only be an effective constraint to the enterprises, but also not exceed the maximum capacity which is determined by the competitiveness situation of industries and enterprises, especially help to reach the reasonable balance between criteria of economic efficiency and social benefits.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors used a logarithm production model to prove the existence of positive externality in transportation and then constructed a spatial econometric model to estimate this model.
Abstract: This article tests the external spillover effects on China's economic growth of transportation from theoretic and empirical dimension. Based on a logarithm production model, this article firstly proves the existence of positive externality in transportation. After then, it collects China's data of 28 provinces from 1985 to 2006, and uses a comparative advanced spatial econometric method to test on the positive externality. After constructing a spatial econometric model, the writer uses maximum likelihood method to estimate this model.According to the theoretic model and the empirical conclusion, this article reaches the following conclusion:①The positive externality in transportation do exist;②From 1985 to 2006, transportation contributed 24.8 billion yuan(RMB) to China's GDP every year, of the 24.8 billion yuan,19.6 billion comes from the directly contribution and the other 5.2 billion comes from the externality spillover effects;③The summation of direct contribution and external spillover effects to economic growth is on average 13.8% every year.

Abstract: In the research of redundant construction formation mechanism, the relatively mainstream research idea is formed by using"market failure"to explain redundant construction and overcapacity.Based on these theories, policy department will always take the administrative control about investment and market access as core of"redundant construction"governance polices. This paper re-examine the major research literatures followed this idea, and find that there are fundamental flaws in all these researches.Further research shows that local government improper interments micro economy in a distorted system conduct redundant construction, and it's the main reason. This improper intervention behavior distort enterprises'investment behavior mainly through cost external effects, investment subsidies effect and effect of external risks, then lead to over-investment on capacity and redundant construction in industry. These studies shows that it is improper to governance"redundant construction"by administrative control policy, and it is needed to further promote the reform in land property, financial system and so on in order to radical cure the"redundant construction".

TL;DR: Based on empirical evidence from Chinese manufacturing listed companies between 2005 and 2007, the authors explores the impact suppliers and franchisers (buyers) may have on corporate performance, as well as the impact degree and means.
Abstract: The traditional competition among companies has evolved into competition among supply chains (or industry chains), hence the improvement of supply chains (or industry chains) management becomes absolutely necessary for promotion of enterprise competitive power. Based on empirical evidence from Chinese manufacturing listed companies between 2005 and 2007, this paper explores the impact suppliers and franchisers (buyers) may have on corporate performance, as well as the impact degree and means. The empirical research proves that:①lower the concentration degree of suppliers and franchisers (buyers) is, better corporate performance will be;②suppliers' concentration degree and bargaining power have an inverted U-shape relationship with corporate performance; ③different from existing researches, franchisers' (buyers') concentration degree and bargaining power have significant negative relationship with corporate performance; meanwhile, a U-shape relationship with higher left wing and lower right wing exists between them.

TL;DR: Li et al. as mentioned in this paper showed that the disintegration of production and energy use efficiency exhibit a U relationship by cooperation of two effects, i.e., effect of transference and effect of learning by GVC.
Abstract: Energy security and environmental pollution of China depends on improvement of energy use efficiency. In the background of disintegration of global production, the position of China in GVC influences energy use efficiency.Further, energy efficiency depends on effect of transference and effect of learning by GVC. Demonstrating a test on the panel data of China's industries,we find that disintegration of production and energy use efficiency exhibit a U relationship by cooperation of two effects. The conclusion means endowment advantage based on energy can't transform competitive advantage and support industrial upgrading of China.

TL;DR: Based on the theories of industrial convergence, the authors compared the convergence of manufacturing and information industry about main countries including China, and then analyzed its impact on the industry performance of the China's manufacturing.
Abstract: Based on the theories of industrial convergence, this paper firstly compared the convergence of manufacturing and information industry about main countries including China, and then analyzed its impact on the industry performance of the China's manufacturing. The main conclusions are as followed: The convergence of China's manufacturing and information industry is less than those of major developed countries; The industrial convergence shows positive correlation with the performance of manufacturing, and become new growth power to the performance of manufacturing; Market structure, ownership structure and industrial convergence react on the performance of manufacturing together; The open degree of market plays an important role on the performance of manufacturing, but doesn't show cooperation relation with industrial convergence. Therefore, we provide some implications of the convergence of industrialization and informationization.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors pointed out that factors which could influence regional energy efficiency includ socioeconomic factors (energy consumption makeup, industrial structure, GDP per capital, etc) an environmental factors (eg geographical location, topographic condition, weather, sunlight time, etc), and initiated total factor energy efficiency models to incorporate influence of environmental factors.
Abstract: This paper points out that factors which could influence regional energy efficiency includ socioeconomic factors (egenergy consumption makeup, industrial structure, GDP per capital, etc) an environmental factors (eg geographical location, topographic condition, weather, sunlight time, etc) Generall speaking, socioeconomic factors are inside human society, and their influence can be changed through method such as policy reform and adjustment of energy consumer's behaviorEnvironmental factors are, however, outsid human society, and their influence on energy efficiency are totally out of control Therefore, it is reasonable to sa that only influence caused by socioeconomic factors is energy saving potential which can be realized This articl then differentiates concepts of 'theoretic energy saving potential' and 'real energy saving potential', and initiate total-factor energy efficiency models to incorporate influence of environmental factors Based on data on four typica environmental factors, regional energy saving potentials in 2005 are investigated and compared Results show that ①Regional energy efficiency is largely influenced by environmental factorsIn 2005, influence of the four selecte environmental factors combined is around 12%-16%;②Compared to the leading energy efficiency level in China regional real energy saving potential is in average about 0140—0224 toe/10000 RMB This indicates tha governmental organs should notice the geographic differences among regions when making national or regional energ policy and also regional energy efficiency improvement targets

TL;DR: Zhang et al. as discussed by the authors examined the effect of political connection types, which consist of "government officials" connections and "members of People's Congress (PC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)" connections, on accounting conservatism in the private listed companies.
Abstract: Based on modification of Basu (1997) model, this paper examines the effect of political connection types, which consist of "government officials" connections and "members of People's Congress (PC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)" connections, on accounting conservatism in the private listed companies. The results confirm that political connections in private listed companies reduce accounting conservatism as a whole. After distinguishing the types of political connections, it is showed that "members of PC and CPPCC" connections reduce accounting conservatism, whereas "government officials" connections have no significant effect on accounting conservatism.

Abstract: Based on enterprises survey, this paper studied the road to enhance enterprises competitiveness after the implementation of "China's New Labor Contract Law" During the survey, we found the following conclusions:①The new "Labor Contract Law" did not increase the cost of law-abiding enterprises; ②Wage increase is not the result of implementation of the "Labor Contract Law"; ③ "Labor Contract Law" helps to maintain an orderly employment; ④ "Labor contract Law" will not reduce labor demand Based on the survey, we believe that the upgrade road of labor-intensive enterprises should be the following:Shift price advantage to brand and channel advantage; upgrading products through research and development; be people-oriented rather than rhetoricDuring rapid economic growth, most companies will not pay attention to innovation, brand or talent; therefore, those enterprises went bust when economic turns down However, a small number of entrepreneurs recognized the importance of enhancing their own competitiveness In this way, they can not only ride out the storm in times of crisis, but also find some opportunities The following two factors hider the upgrading of competitiveness of laborintensive industries First, the inadequacy of China's soft power; Second, shortage of skilled industrial workers China's labor-intensive industries need upgrading more than development It can be said that China's industry will be upgraded together with labor's quality, to put it straight, the former depends on the latter In an expectable period, escalation of China's labor-intensive industry will be the upgrading of production process and product, during which, skilled workers are nonseparable Thus the training of skilled workers is a required course for China's industrial upgrading

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the direct influences of Chinese Confucian values and their indirect influences on Chinese consumer purchasing behaviors through the impact on lifestyles, and proposed a new CCLS segmentation method, which will help marketers design and position their products, and develop and implement their marketing strategies more effectively.
Abstract: This research aims to investigate the direct influences of Chinese Confucian values and their indirect influences on Chinese consumer purchasing behaviors through the impact on lifestyles. The empirical research has been conducted in the context of mobile phone markets in Shanghai. On the basis of questionnaire survey, through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, two measurement scales of Chinese Confucian values and lifestyles are created and validated. The relationships of Confucian values, lifestyles and Chinese consumer purchasing behaviors are tested by the structural equation model. Findings indicate that Confucian values have direct influence on consumer purchasing behaviors and have indirect influence on consumer purchasing behaviors through the impact on lifestyles. Based on the research results, the author proposes a new CCLS (Chinese Confucian values and lifestyles segmentation) market segmentation method, which will help marketers design and position their products, and develop and implement their marketing strategies more effectively.

TL;DR: In this article, a game model between monopoly enterprises and non-monopoly enterprises is proposed to explain why Schumpeter's "creative destruction" theory is hardly applied to China.
Abstract: This paper answers the question that why Schumpeter's "creative destruction" theory is hardly applied to China.By establishing a game model between monopoly enterprises and non-monopoly enterprises,we prove that siding with monopoly enterprises in policy will undremine non-monopoly enterprises' innovation motivation. Moreover,non-monopoly enterprises reduce the research labors and the probaility of being monopoly enterprises' intermediate goods producers increases, meanwhile the probality that monopoly enterprises become the leader of creation increases, then the contribution of innovation to economic growth decreases.Eventually it is mainly investment to promote economy growth.Under the above conditons, the frequency of endogenous technological innovation will greatly drop. This is the fundmental factor of the presence of "low technology lock in" with Chinese characteristics.
