Abstract: Objective:To review the progress on study of chemical constituents and quality control methods of Flos Carthami.Method:The literature published in China and abroad in recent years was consulted and summarized.Result:The constituents of Flos Carthami are pigments,flavonoids,phenolic acid etc.And Safflor yellow were the effective constituents in Flos Carthami,which were extracted predomi-nently by water.The chromatergraphic technique was used to the control quality of Flos Carthami.Conclusion:More studies are needed on the quality control of Flos Carthami.

Abstract: Objective:To study relationship between traditional medical formulae and syndrome of Xiayuxue Decotion against liver fibrosis in rats induced by porcine serum.Methods:Liver fibrosis in rats was induced by intraperitoneal injection of porcine serum.10 rats(4 in normal group and 6 in model group)were sacrificed after 8 w of modelling.The rest rats were then devided into normal group,model group,Xiayuxue Decoction group,Yinchenhao Decoction group,Huangqi Dectoction group,Erzhi Pill Group and Xiaochaihu Decoction Group.Porcine serum was continuous given at the same time of administration.Rats were sacrificed and sample was obtained at the end of 12 w of modeling.ALT,AST,ALP and GGT activity,and Alb,TP and TBil content in rats were determined.Hyp content in rat liver tissue was assayed with hydrochloric acid hydrolyzing method,and histological changes with HE staining and collagen deposition with sirus red staining.Results:ALT and AST levels increased significantly(P0.05),Alb and TP content decrease markedly(P0.05).For the increased ALP,GGT and TBil levels there are no.Compared with model rats the improved liver function of rats in treatment groups is found especially in Xiayuxue Decoction.Compared with normal group,Hyp content of liver tissue in modeling rats increased significantly(P0.01).Compared with model group,liver tissue Hyp content in rats of Xiayuxue Decoction group decreases significantly(P0.05),Hyp content in Yinchenhao Decoction group also decreases to some extent without statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusion:Xiayuxue Decoction effectively inhibits liver fibrosis in rats induced by porcine serum,which indicated that liver fibrosis induced by porcine serum in rats might be blood stasis congesting vessels.

Abstract: Objective:To study the toxicity of kidney and haper by Fructus Gardeniae in rats.Method:After administration for 3days,rats were executed,the samples of liver and kidney were collected and weighted,the pathological observation was carried out by optical microscope.Result:The organ relative weight of liver and kidney increased,compared with control group(P0.001),the tumefaction and necrosis of hepatic cells with proliferation of capillary in portal area were found,there was tumefaction in the trenal tubules.Conclusion:Fructus Gardeniae can result in the toxicity of haper and kidney in rats.

Abstract: Objective:To study the anti-hyperglycemic effect of Gymnema sylvestre(Retz.)Schult 95% Ethanolic Extracts(GSEE).Method:Normal mice,alloxan-induced diabetic mice,adrenaline-induced hyperglycemic mice were used.The anti-hyperglycemic action was studied with radio-immunoassay and glucoseoxidase.Result:High dosage of GSEE could decrease fasted blood sugar in normal mice.It could increase serum insulin level,decrease fasted blood sugar in alloxan-induced diabetic mice.It could also decrease fasted blood sugar in adrenaline-induced hyperglycemic mice.It could improve glucose tolerance in normal mice,and the duration was about 1 hour.Conclusion:GSEE has obvious anti-hyperglycemic effect in alloxan-induced diabetic mice and adrenaline-induced hyperglycemic mice.It could improve glucose tolerance in normal mice.Its mechanism is stimulating of insulin secretion from β cells.

Abstract: Objective:To observe the effects of Toddalia Asiatica Lam.on analgesia and inflammation.Methods:The number of body-writhing within 15 min was observed in mouse model caused by acetic acid.Mice were placed on the hot plate maintained at(55.0±0.5)℃ and the latency of licking of the hind paws was observed.Additionally,30 min after admimistration of the extract intragastrically,the inhibitory effect on paw swelling was observed.The extent of ear swelling was observed in inflammation model caused by dimethyl benzene in mice.Results:The number of writhing was decreased and the latency of licking of the hind paws was prolonged by the extract.It can reduce the extet of ear swelling induced by dimethylbenzene in mice and the inhibitory effects on paw swelling(P0.05,P0.01).Conclussion:Toddalia asiatica Lam.has the effects on analgesia and anti-inflammation.

Abstract: Objective:To observe the anti-tumor effect of the extract rich in flavonoids of Spatholobus suberctus Dunn in vitro and in vivo.Methods:In vitro,the inhibitory effects of the extract on proliferation of human lung carcinoma cell line A549 and human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line HT-29 were measured by MTT assay.Cell cycle were analyzed using flow cytometry.The mouse model of Lewis lung carcinoma was used to investigate the effects of the extract on tumor growth and the hematopoietic system.Results:The studies demonstrated that the extract of flavonoids of Spatholobus suberctus Dunn inhibited proliferation of A549 and HT-29,and the IC_(50) values on them were(70.17±12.17) μg·mL~(-1) and(126.81±43.00) μg·mL~(-1) respectively.The tumor inhibitory rate of high dose of extract on Lewis lung cancer was 31.01%.The marrow-depression was not found and the peripheral blood red cell count increase to 40.82% in high dose group compared with the control.Furthermore,the extract arrests A549 cell in S and G_2/M phase,but it induces HT-29 cell cycle arrest in G_2/M phase only.Conclusions:The extract rich in flavonoids of Spatholobus suberctus Dunn exists direct anti-tumor effect and the mechanism of the anti-tumor activities may be the progression inhibition of cell cycle.Moreover,this extract can stimulate red blood cell production.

Abstract: Objective:Elucidating the pharmacokinetic properties of Zhizhu Wan.Method:By using β-Glucuronidase,free hesperintin and naringenin were obtained from the hesperetin-glucronide naringenin-glucronaide in plasma,the contents of the two compounds in plasma was determined by HPLC.Results:T1/2(ka)/T1/2(ke)(h) for naringenin and hesperetin are 2.142±0.999/5.491±3.926 and 2.106±0.728/5.824±3.067 respectively,and the AUC(mg/L·h) value are 34.886±22.199 and 39.407±19.535 for naringenin and hesperetin respectively.Conclusion:The method for determinning naringenin and hesperetin in plasma has been established,and the pharmacokinetic parameters can be instructive for clinic apllication.

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the protective effect of leonurine(Leo) on pituitrin(Pit)-induced acute myocardial ischemia injury in rats.Methods:Pit was administrated intraperitoneally to induce acute myocardial ischemia injury in rats.The locomotion of J point(mv) and T wave(mv) in ECG was allowed to evaluate the degree of myocardial ischemia.The content of cardiac troponin T(cTnT) in serum and myocardium was measured by radio immunoassay.Results:In Leo(3,5,7,9 mg/kg) groups,the elevation of J point and T wave was lowered.The contents of cTnT in serum and myocardium were obviously decreased.Linear regression analysis(scatterplot) indicated that there is dose-effect relationship within certain dose range.Conclusions:Leo can inhibit Pit-induced myocardial ischemia injury,with dose-dependent effect.

Abstract: Objective:To investigate effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction(BHD) and its active fractions such as alkaloid and glycoside on activities of antithrombin Ⅲ(AT-Ⅲ) and protein C(PC) after carotid arterial thrombosis induced by ferric chloride in rats. Methods: Rats were administered with tested drugs and then left carotid artery was applied with FeCl_3 to form thrombus.The activities of antithrombin Ⅲ(AT-Ⅲ) and protein C(PC) in plasma in rats were determined by chromogenic substrate assay.Results:BHD,alkaloid and glycoside could decrease thrombotic weight (P0.05).The activities of AT-Ⅲ in the model group were significantly lower than those of the sham-operated group(P0.01).The activities of ATⅢ in BHD and alkaloid group were markedly lower than those of the model group(P0.01),No significant difference was found in activities of AT-Ⅲ between the glycoside and model group(P0.05).The activities of PC in the model group were slightly lower than those of the sham-operated group(0.10P0.05).Compared with the model group,the activities of PC in alkaloid group were decreased(P0.05).But the activities of PC in BHD and glycoside group were increased when compared to the model group(P0.01) and sham group(P0.01).Conclusions: BHD,alkaloid and glycoside could inhibit thrombosis. Antithrombotic actions of BHD may be related to binding with AT-Ⅲ,and it could also prevent the consumption of PC after carotid arterial thrombosis.Antithrombotic action of alkaloid may concerne inactivating coagulation factors by binding with AT-Ⅲ or accelerating inactivation of coagulation factors by PC.Antithrombotic action of glycoside may not be related to AT-Ⅲ and PC.

Abstract: Objective:To observe the function of decreasing blood-lipid by extract from Flos carthami in rat with hyperlipidemia and safety of water extract.Methods:Using hyperlipidemia animal model replicated by hyperlipidemia forage,the levels of TC,TG,HDL,LDL were assayed;actue toxicity test and thirty days feeding study were employed.Results:The levels of TG,TC,LDL-C in all groups treated with the water extract of Flos Carthami were significantly reduced.The alcohol extract of Flos carthami showed a decreased action for TC.For safety,water extract showed no death nor toxic symptom.All the observed index showed no relationship between postponing time and increasing doses during 30 d feeding period.And in teratogenicity tests,pregnant rats grew well;fetuses developed naturally,and the ratio of abnormal fetues was in the range of natural abnormal ratio.Conclusions:The extract of Flos carthami indicaterd the function of decreasing the blood-lipid,and no obvious toxic effects have been observed.

Abstract: Objective:To investigate the mechanism of the Chinese herbal formulation Biminne in treating airway allergic disease.Methods:We used guinea pig model of allergic disease to study the effects of the Chinese herbal formulation Biminne on the airway allergic disease.The guinea pigs were divided to 5 groups:normal group,model group,high-dose group,middle-dose group,low-dose group.On day 1 the guinea pigs were sensitized by injecting intraperitoneally with 10% ovalbumin(OVA),and on day 15 the sensitized guinea pigs were subjected to 5% OVA inhalation challenge.Then we observed the index such as the eosinophil and IL-5 levels in blood and bronchial airway lavaging fluid(BALF),corticosteroid level in blood and the spleen cell proliferation responsiveness.Results:Compared with normal group,the eosinophil number in blood and BALF,and IL-5 level in blood increased significantly in model group(P0.05),But Biminne could significantly prolong the time when the asthma attack happened,attenuated the increase in the eosinophil and IL-5 levels,especially the hige-dose and middle-dose groups(P0.05),and also suppressed the proliferation of spleen cells,especially the hige-dose group(P0.05).Conclusion:The results suggest that the Chinese herbal formulation Biminne has some antiasthmatic effect,partly mediated by attenuating eosinophil and IL-5 levels and suppressing the spleen cell proliferation in OVA-sensitived guinea pigs.Thus the Chinese herbal formulation Bimnne may be useful in preventing and treating allergic disease.

Abstract: Objective:To compare the hepatotoxicity induced by geniposide SD rat,wistar rat and ICR mouse of different age.Methods:SD rats Wistar rats and ICR mice were given geniposide intragastically for 3 days,and then changes in appearance and body weight were observed;weight of livers was measured and the organ index was calculated;activities of serum ALT,AST and level of TBIL were determined.Results:Rats:The dosages of geniposide in 280 mg/kg could result in increasing livers weight,organ index,activities of ALT,AST and level of TBIL in serum.Mouse:The dosages of geniposide in 560 mg/kg did not induce obvious hepatotoxicity,the dosages of geniposide in(1 860) mg/kg couldincrease the activity of ALT and level of TBIL.Conclusions:There is no obvious difference in hepatotoxicity induced by geniposide to SD rat and Wistar rat of different age.Geniposide shows no obvious hepatotoxicity to mouse.

Abstract: Objective: To approach preventive and therapeutic effect of Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction on restenosis.Methods: Model of artherosclerosis restenosis in rabbits was created by stimulating arteria carotis communis with electric current,feeding rabbits with high-fat diet for 8 weeks,Doppler ultrasound estimating stegnosis of atheromatous plaque,and then broadening stenosal carotid with sacculus in home position.Model rabbits were divided into three groups randomly,consisting of model,western medicine(pravastatin plus Bamyl),Chinese drug(Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction).Normal and Sham operation group was negative control.Medicine containg fodder treated rabbits for 4 weeks.Bloodfat,C-reactive protein,transforming growth factor in the serum were detected respectively.HE,elasticity +VG,Masson,and immuno-histochemical α-SM-actin and macrophage RAM11 were determined.All results of pathological dyeing were gained by image analysis.Results: Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction had outstanding effect on inhibiting collagen in hyperplasy endomembrane.It reduced an area of collagen reaching 50%(compared with model group P0.01).Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction also decreased the content of TGF-β and blood-fat in serum.However,Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction had no effect on lowering content of CRP and inhibiting expression of macrophage RAM11.Conclusion:Yiqihuoxuejiedu decoction may prevent and treat restenosis after percutaneous transluminal anglography by diminishing collagen in hyperplasy endomembrane,depressing the content of blood-fat and transforming growth factor β.

Abstract: Objective:To observe the anti-oxidative activity of the polysaccharides(P1) of FBD.Methods:The oxidative injured model of PC12 and ECV304 cells induced by H_2O_2 were used to measure the oxidation prevention of FBD Ps on cells which was observed with MTT metherd.The oxidative injured model of mice induced by cyclophosphamide was used,the activities of SOD and MDA in brains were measured.Results:The FBD Ps has noteable functions of oxidation prevention on the oxidative injured model of PC12 and ECV304 cells in concentrations of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg FBD Ps.They also can rise the activity of SOD and decline the content of MDA.Conclusions:FBD Ps has notable function for oxidation prevention.This maybe the basis of its function for VD prevention.

Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the expectorant and anti-inflammatory effects of the combinations of saponins of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch(GS) and Platycodon grandiflorum A.DC(PS).Methods:The phenol drain model,xylene-induced mouse ear edema model and PLA_2-induced mouse paw edema model were used,and the interaction between these two agents was evaluated by modified isobologram method.Result:With the decrease of total dose,the trend of interaction from antagonism to synergism was observed,and synergism or additivity was obtained at low effective doses.Conclusion:At fixed ratio,the total dose would affect the herbal interactive effects.

Abstract: Objective:To study the antihyperlipidemia effect of allicin and the mechanism.Methods:50 mice were divided into five groups:control group,hyperlipidmia,small,medium and large dose groups of allicin with hyperlipidemia.Levels of TG,TC,HDL-C,LDL-C,lecithin cholesterol acyltransferase(LCAT),lipoprotein lipase of heart(LPL),hepatic lipase(HL)and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA(HMGCoA) reductase were measured.The experiment on particle of cholesterol in vitro was performed.Results:Allicin has obvious effects of reducing the contents of TG,TC,LDL-C and increasing the content of HDL-C.Allicin can,to some extent,increase the activities of LCAT,LPL and HL,and decrease the activity of liver HMGCoA reductase in vitro.Allicin also can inhibit the particle of cholesterol in vitro.Conclusion:Allicin obviously decreased the blood lipids.The mechanisms of reducing blood lipids perhaps were to promote the metabolism and change of the lipoprotein,inhibit absorbing cholesterol and reduce cholesterol biosynthesis as well as enhance TG decomposition in the mice serum and liver.

Abstract: Objective:To determine icariin contents in different plant parts of Epimedium plants in Guizhou,and provide a basis for reasonable development of the medicinal material resources.Methods:Icariin contents of the samples of different species,different origins and different parts were determined by HPLC.Results:Icariin contents of 16 species in Guizhou have big difference.Conclusion:Quality of most Epimedium herbs conform to standards of China Pharmacopeia(2005 edition).For development of the medicinal material resources,it is better that the aerial part of Epimedium herbs are collected.

Abstract: Objective:To explore the free radical mechanism of Zuoguiyin(ZGY) in delaying senility.Methods:After the ZGY group of mice had freely drunk the concentrated decoction for 75 days,and compared with the old control group,we observed the effect on the indices of thymus index,spleen index,the contents of MDA,the activities of SOD and T-AOC of serum.Results:Compared to the young control group,the old control group showed significant increase in the contents of MDA in blood,significant decrease in the activities of SOD,T-AOC in blood,and decrease in thymus index and spleen index.The ZGY group showed significant improvement for the above parameters compared with the old control group.The differences were statistically significant.Conclusion:Zuoguiyin could delay the senility,which might be related with increasing antioxdation and thymus index and spleen index,meanwhile,reducing the damage of free radical to cell membrane.

Abstract: Objective:To establish a HPLC fingerprint of Semen Oroxyli.Methods:The analysis was carried out on a Lichrospher C_(18) column(250 mm×4.6 mm,5 μm) eluted with the mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile(A) and water(B) all containing 1% acetic acid in gradient mode.The gradient program was as follows:0~30 min,A changed from 10%~25%;(30~50)min,A changed from 25% to 55%;then the column keeped for 5 min.The flow rate was 1.0 mL·min(-1).The wave length was 280 nm and temperature was 30 ℃.Result:The fingerpring of Semen Oroxyli was estabilished.Conclusion:The method is repeatable and can be used in quality control of Semen Oroxyli.

Abstract: Objective:To study the regulating effect and the mechanism of Wendan decoction on disorder of lipid metabolism in rat.Methods:The model rats of disorder of lipid metabolism have been established by feeding high-fat emulsion Ocally.The regulating effects of Wendan decoction on triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TG),super oxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA),lipoprotein lipase(LPL),hepatic lipase(HL), total lipase(LA) in serum of the rats were observered.Result:Wendan decoction reduced the levels of TC,TG of the modal rats,compared with the model group the differences are P0.01 and P0.05.Wendan decoction raised SOD and reduced MDA,P0.05 and P0.01.At the same time,Wendan decoction could raise the activity of LA and LPL,P0.01.but there was no effect on HL.Conclusion:Wendan decoction can regulate the disorder of lipid metabolism by raising the activity of LA and LPL in the modal rats effectively,and it may reduce the degree of lipid peroxidation and cell damage.

Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the combination of saponins of Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch(GS) and Platycodon grandiflorum A.DC(PS) for duration of expectorant and anti-inflammatory effects.Methods:The duration of effects was observed directly in phenol drain model,xylene-induced mouse ear edema model and PLA_2-induced mouse paw edema model,and the combinative effects of two agents was evaluated quantitatively by Jin's Q formula.Results:Co-administration of GS and PS in 8∶1 can extend the duration of expectorant and anti-inflammatory effects,when compared to any agent alone.By the method of Jin's Q formula,additivity,synergism or antagonism was obtained in different models.Conclusions:GS and PS combined have characteristic of synergism in duration of expectorant and anti-inflammatory effects.The combinative ratio and total dose are two factors that can affect the combinative effects.

Abstract: Objective:To observe the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP) by Caulis Polygoni Multiflori.Methods:Decreased the degrade rate of substrate is associated with the inhibition of MMP.We studied the inhibitory activity of Caulis Polygoni Multiflori on MMP by observing the degrade rate of substrate.Results:Caulis Polygoni Multiflori inhibited the MMP-16 activity,and the IC_(50) was 21 μg/mL.Conclusion: The Caulis Polygoni Multiflori has the inhibitory activity of MMP-16.

Abstract: Objective:To explore the standard conditions of the cerebrospinal fluid pharmacological method,by investigating the neural protective effect of cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) containing FBD.Methods:The effect of rat CSF with FBD on injured PC12 cell induced by hydrogen peroxide was observed by MTT assay under various experimental conditions(dosage regiment,addition level,treatment process).Results:The viability of PC12 cell injured by hydrogen peroxide increased with the addition level of CSF with FBD,and at the same addition level(5%,10%,20%),CSF of rat after administrating FBD repetitiously (2 times/d)×3.5 d) exerted higher protective efficacy on PC12 cell than that of after administrating FBD once.The raw CSF with FBD and the CSF with FBD treated by heat(56 ℃),ethanol,acetone all had notable protective effects on PC12 cell(P0.01),and there was no significant statistical difference among them.Meanwhile,CSF with FBD of different batch of rats and with different preserved time also showed distinct activities,however,protective rate declined with prolonging of the preserved time.Conclusion:It is proposed that the CSF containing drugs may be prepared with 10% rat CSF without treating after administrating drugs repetitiously and preserved at20 ℃ no more than 30 days.
