TL;DR: In this article, the potential for storage of solar energy as latent heat in kinetically stable products is surveyed, and a concept of thermal upconversion of the excitation energies of visible absorbing sensitizers is introduced.
Abstract: The prospects for driving endoergic reactions of simple, relatively abundant, organic chemicals by photochemical means have been examined Photoisomerization reactions which have some potential for storage of solar energy as latent heat in kinetically stable products are surveyed Emphasis is placed on methods for the photosensitization of storage chemicals to visible light Mechanisms include excited state complexation of isomerizable substrates through electron donor-acceptor attraction and conventional energy transfer photosensitization Efficient isomerization of a norbornadiene derivative using the latter technique and photosensitizers absorbing past 500 nm is described Factors controlling the efficiency of endothermic triplet energy transfer are outlined The concept of “thermal upconversion” of the excitation energies of visible absorbing sensitizers is introduced, including a demonstration of improved quantum efficiency as a function of temperature for an isomerization which utilizes a very low energy sensitizer

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of a study on the use of Air Force field maintenance data for the reliability and maintainability assessment of operational ground electronic equipments, and identify the major limitations in the field data for use in field r and M assessment.
Abstract: : This report presents the results of a study on the use of Air Force field maintenance data for the reliability and maintainability assessment of operational ground electronic equipments. A currently operational relatively complex ground electronic equipment was used as a study vehicle. Comparisons are made between the r and M estimates derived from the field data versus similar estimates obtained from the r and M design and development program. The study identifies the major limitations in the field data for use in field r and M assessment. Recommendations for improving the quality and usability of the field data are also made. (Author)

TL;DR: In this paper, the corrosive effects of Type RA fluxes and flux residues on printed wiring boards subjected to electrical stress in a humid environment at elevated temperature were identified and the effect of varying delay times between soldering and cleaning of flux residues was also studied and the protective value of solder resist and conformal coating was evaluated.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of stationary, uniform, electric, and magnetic fields on steady-state detonation of condensed explosives is studied and the electrical conductivity profile in the region of the reaction zone provides a current path and Joule heating is computed using an Abel equation of state.
Abstract: : The effect of stationary, uniform, electric, and magnetic fields on steady-state detonation of condensed explosives is studied The electrical conductivity profile in the region of the reaction zone provides a current path and Joule heating Expected increases of detonation velocity and pressure by Joule heating are computed using an Abel equation of state It is shown that the detonation pressure of TNT can be increased by as much as 12% and detonation velocity by as much as 6% before electrical breakdown can occur

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of a continuing research and development program are presented of a reduced bandwidth television system and a technique for television transmission of holograms, the result of which is a variable frame rate television system, the operation of which was demonstrated for both black-and-white and color signals.
Abstract: The results are presented of a continuing research and development program the objective of which is to develop a reduced bandwidth television system and a technique for television transmission of holograms. The result of the former is a variable frame rate television system, the operation of which was demonstrated for both black-and-white and color signals. This system employs a novel combination of the inexpensive mass storage capacity of a magnetic disc with the reliability of a digital system for time expansion and compression. Also reported are the results of a theoretical analysis and preliminary feasibility experiment of an innovative system for television transmission of holograms using relatively conventional TV equipment along with a phase modulated reference wave for production of the original interference pattern.
