TL;DR: In this article, two operations have been developed for the purpose of making intercoronary channels by producing an inflammatory reaction on the surface of the heart and placing a vein graft between aorta and coronary sinus.
Abstract: The primary problem of coronary artery disease concerns red blood to the heart muscle. Operative procedures can accomplish this objective. Two operations have been developed for this purpose. One consists of making intercoronary channels by producing an inflammatory reaction on the surface of the heart. Ligation of the coronary sinus is also carried out in this operation. The second operation consists of placing a vein graft between aorta and coronary sinus. Both of these operations are beneficial. One hundred operations have been done. The clinical results have been excellent. Mortality can be kept around 10 per cent depending on the type of patients selected for operation.

TL;DR: It cannot be too clearly emphasized that early treatment brings its reward even in severe cases, but the neglected case of severe shock may progress to the stage of peripheral circulatory failure, and energetic treatment may then be of no avail.
Abstract: The present time of battlefield and air-raid casualties gives the subject of surgical shock an ever-increasing in;portance. The frequent low level of pain and the cessation of haemorrhage in severe injury are beneficial effects of shock. Individuals, however, vary in their reaction to the causes of shock: the sensitive faint \"at the sight of blood,\" while the phlegmatic remain unmoved. In many cases shock seems needlessly severe, so that failure of the circulation and death occur. A great number of investigations have been made in the past into the pathology and treatment of shock, and the many somewhat conflicting facts and theories argued tend to produce confusion, with the result that recognition and treatment of shock are not above criticism. It cannot be too clearly emphasized that early treatment brings its reward even in severe cases, but the neglected case of severe shock may progress to the stage of peripheral circulatory failure, and energetic treatment may then be of no avail. It was towards these severe cases of secondary shock that this investigation was directed.

TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to cite some significant observations from the literature regarding duodenal ulcer and to present a series of illustrative case histories and roentgenograms of the lesion in children.
Abstract: The possibility of an inflammatory lesion of the duodenal bulb is not considered frequently enough in the differential diagnosis of gastro-intestinal tract upsets or abdominal pain in children. For one to suspect ulcer in children presenting symptoms referable to the abdomen or gastro-intestinal tract, it is essential to accept the fact that ulcer can and does occur. The purpose of this paper is to cite some significant observations from the literature regarding duodenal ulcer and to present a series of illustrative case histories and roentgenograms of the lesion in children. Thiele (1) reported a series of 248 cases of ulcer in children sixteen years old or younger, half of which were duodenal in location. Hirsch (2), in a very large collected series of peptic ulcer, reported the incidence in children to be between 0.3 and 1.0 per cent, but did not distinguish between duodenal and gastric lesions. Cockovic (3) showed that more than 18 per cent of his cases of ulcer presented clinical symptoms developing ...
