TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that over a finite time, quantum fluctuations of the curvature disrupt the nonsingular cosmological solution corresponding to a universe with a polarized vacuum.
Abstract: Over a finite time, quantum fluctuations of the curvature disrupt the nonsingular cosmological solution corresponding to a universe with a polarized vacuum. If this solution held as an intermediate stage in the evolution of the universe, then the spectrum of produced fluctuations could have led to the formation of galaxies and galactic clusters.

TL;DR: In this paper, the exciton absorption spectrum of microscopic CuCl crystals grown in a transparent dielectric matrix has been studied and the size of the microscopic crystals was varied in a controlled manner from several tens of angstroms to hundreds of Angstroms.
Abstract: The exciton absorption spectrum of microscopic CuCl crystals grown in a transparent dielectric matrix has been studied The size of the microscopic crystals was varied in a controlled manner from several tens of angstroms to hundreds of angstroms There is a short-wave shift (of up to 01 eV) of the exciton absorption lines, caused by a quantum size effect

TL;DR: In this paper, a possible pronounced nonconservation of baryon number in interactions involving magnetic monopoles is discussed in a unified theory with SU (5) gauge group, and possible experimental consequences of this non-conservation are examined.

TL;DR: In this article, the Schroedinger equation for highly excited states of a hydrogen atom in a magnetic field H allows a separation of variables (within an accuracy of H/sup 4/) in elliptical-cylindrical coordinates on a sphere in a four-dimensional momentum space.
Abstract: It is shown that the Schroedinger equation for highly excited states of a hydrogen atom in a magnetic field H allows a separation of variables (within an accuracy of H/sup 4/) in elliptical-cylindrical coordinates on a sphere in a four-dimensional momentum space. A new classification and approximate selection rules are proposed for these states.

Journal Article
TL;DR: In this paper, a reduction of the velocity spread of a beam of sodium atoms has been observed experimentally as the beam was slowed by an oppositely directed resonant laser beam, over an effective slowing distance of 20 cm, the longitudinal velocity distribution of the atomic beam was contracted by a factor of 19.
Abstract: A reduction of the velocity spread of a beam of sodium atoms has been observed experimentally as the beam was slowed by an oppositely directed resonant laser beam. Over an effective slowing distance of 20 cm, the longitudinal velocity distribution of the atomic beam was contracted by a factor of 19; correspondingly, the relative-motion temperature of the atoms was lowered to 1.5 K.

Journal Article
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed colliding e/sup +/e/sup -/ beams with an energy and luminosity of the same order of magnitude as for e /sup + /e/e-sup −/e −/ beams, which can be produced by scattering a laser light at the accelerators.
Abstract: Colliding ..gamma gamma.. and ..gamma..e beams with an energy and luminosity of the same order of magnitude as for e/sup +/e/sup -/ beams can be produced by scattering a laser light at the accelerators with colliding e/sup +/e/sup -/ beams with an energy > or approx. =100 GeV. Such accelerators are currently in the design stage.

TL;DR: In this paper, the polarization of the laser beams has been found to affect the yields of even and odd Yb isotopes from a natural isotopic mixture in selective three-step photoionization through a Rydberg state.
Abstract: The polarization of the laser beams has been found to affect the yields of even and odd Yb isotopes from a natural isotopic mixture in selective three-step photoionization through a Rydberg state. The experimental results are interpreted.

TL;DR: The interaction eigenstates in quantum chromodynamics are states of the incident hadron with certain values of the color transverse dipole moment as mentioned in this paper, and a sum can effectively be taken over all the corrections for inelastic screening of the hadron--nucleus diffraction amplitude.
Abstract: The interaction eigenstates in quantum chromodynamics are states of the incident hadron with certain values of the color transverse dipole moment. Accordingly, a sum can effectively be taken over all the corrections for inelastic screening of the hadron--nucleus diffraction amplitude.

Journal Article
TL;DR: In this paper, an estimate for the energy flow across magnetic surfaces that have been destroyed because of a "shivering" of the magnetic-field lines of force is given by the Ohkawa formula.
Abstract: An estimate is obtained for the energy flow across magnetic surfaces that have been destroyed because of a ''shivering'' of the magnetic-field lines of force. It is shown that the electron thermal conductivity in tokamaks is given by the Ohkawa formula.

TL;DR: In this article, nonconservation of space parity has been detected in the 1.33-eV p resonance of /sup 117/Sn. The resonance value P(E/sub p/) = (4.5 +- 1.3) x 10/sup -3/ has been obtained at the resonance for the ratio of the difference in the cross sections with opposite helicities.

A value P(E/sub p/) = (4.5 +- 1.3) x 10/sup -3/ has been obtained at the resonance for the ratio of the difference in the cross sections with opposite helicities (sigma/sub +/-sigma/sub -/) to their sum (sigma/sub +/+sigma/sub -/).

Journal Article
TL;DR: In this paper, experiments on the search for the 2..beta.. decay, which can yield unique information on the presence of a Majorana mass in a neutrino and a possible nonconservation of lepton number are proposed.
Abstract: Experiments on the search for the 2..beta.. decay, which can yield unique information on the presence of a Majorana mass in a neutrino and a possible nonconservation of lepton number are proposed. A search for 2..beta../sup +/ decays is especially promising in view of the possibility of a pure isolation of the coincidence signal of four annihilation ..gamma..-ray quanta.
