TL;DR: In this article, the relative risk premium related to fertilizer-use among 404 farmers from Malawi and examine the relationship between risk aversion on fertilizer use and the adoption of hybrid maize.
Abstract: This study investigates the linkage between attitudes towards risk and adoption. We empirically examine the relative risk premium related to fertilizer-use among 404 farmers from Malawi and examine the relationship between risk aversion on fertilizer-use and the adoption of hybrid maize. Results show that Malawian farmers exhibit absolute Arrow-Pratt risk aversion towards the use of fertilizer. The findings also reveal that risk aversion towards the use of fertilizer is strongly associated with low intensity of hybrid maize adoption and that other than the safety net programs, human and financial capital variables such as age, household size, land size and off-farm income can be helpful in explaining the non-adoption puzzle. While safety net programs such as the free input distribution increase the likelihood of adoption, they are associated with low adoption intensity for hybrid maize. A key lesson is that when considering promoting a technology, it is important to assess the profit distribution associated with the use of complementary inputs and its implications for risk preference among technology users in order to avoid formulating misguiding policies.

TL;DR: In this article, a power transfer stability index is proposed and compared with other known voltage stability indices such as the voltage collapse prediction index, the line index and power margin, and the simulation results show that the proposed power transfer ability index and the voltage collapsing prediction index give a better prediction of dynamic voltage collapse comapared to the power margin and the power line index.
Abstract: The research presents a study in evaluating the performance of several voltage stability index has been proposed and it is named as the power transfer stability index. The proposed index is then compared with other known voltage stability indices such as the voltage collapse prediction index, the line index and power margin. To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of these indices in predicting proximity to voltage collapse, simulation are carried out using the WSCC 9 bus test system. Simulation test result show that the proposed power transfer ability index and the voltage collapse prediction index give a better prediction of dynamic voltage collapse comapared to the power margin and the line index.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate a risk-return relationship within the asset pricing model framework and explore whether CAPM is a good indicator of asset pricing in Bangladesh, a period 1999-2003 have been considered.
Abstract: Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) provides an equilibrium linear relationship between expected return and risk of an asset. The purpose of this paper is to investigate a risk-return relationship within the CAPM framework. The study also aims at exploring whether CAPM is a good indicator of asset pricing in Bangladesh. For this study, a period 1999- 2003 have been considered. Fama-French (1992) methodology on five variables-stock market return, beta, book to market value, size (Market capitalization) and size 1 (sales) were used to test this model. In the present findings on the CAPM it has been shown that the variables studied have significant relationship with stock return, are still too alive on this ground.

TL;DR: In this paper, the ultrasonic and glass transition temperature of a lead-bismuth borate glass system have been studied using the Matec MBS-8000 Digital Signal Processing and conventional Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) method.
Abstract: Systematic series of lead-bismuth borate glasses, where PbO, Bi2O3 and B2O3 content change for every series based on their weight percentage have been prepared. The ultrasonic and glass transition temperature (Tg) of this glass system have been studied using the Matec MBS-8000 Digital Signal Processing and conventional Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) method. Elastic properties of the glass have been calculated together with Poisson's ratio from the measured densities as well as longitudinal (VL) and shear (VS) ultrasonic velocities. The Tg determined from the change of the base line in the DTA chart. The result showed that both properties are much depends on the changes of their atomic arrangement behaviour with an addition of the modifiers. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
