TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the phenomenon of open innovation in high-tech Korean SMEs and propose a model for assessing the fit between a company and the various models of innovation, and a strategic guide to design an innovation model for successful collaboration with the best partners.
Abstract: This study explores the phenomenon of open innovation in high tech Korean SMEs. Which mechanisms do lead SMEs to choose a specific model of innovation? The paper includes a literature review as well as an empirical study of internationalized SMEs, based on in-depth interviews, observations, and documents. Open innovation does not always constitute the best model of innovation solution for all SME. This paper proposes a model for assessing the fit between a company and the various models of innovation, and a strategic guide to design an innovation model for successful collaboration with the best partners.

TL;DR: In this article, the expectations placed on a social entrepreneur are outside of the usual set of requirements for an entrepreneur, and changes in consumer preferences suggest that this is not the case.
Abstract: Social entrepreneurship has been defined in contrast to commercial entrepreneurship. This suggests thatthe expectations placed on a social entrepreneur are outside of the usual set of requirements for an entrepreneur. However, changes in consumer preferences suggest that this is not the case. A growing segment of consumers want to make purchases from companies that uphold values that are consistent with their own (Gerzema & D’Antonio, 2011; Ki & Kim, 2016; Noble, Haytko, & Phillips, 2009). Thus, it is important for entrepreneurs to move in the direction of “social” entrepreneurs.

TL;DR: In this article, a model for enhancing students' creative thinking skills is proposed, which suggests that students' logical thinking and collaboration directly affect analytical thinking and indirectly affect creative thinking via analytical thinking.
Abstract: The objective of this study is to propose a model for enhancing students’ creative thinking skills. This study collects data from 104 graduate students studying business research. A questionnaire relating to local thinking and collaboration was developed. Analytical thinking and creative thinking measurements were collected from graduate school entrance exam scores and instructors’ review of student’s research reports. The findings suggest that students’ logical thinking and collaboration directly affect analytical thinking and indirectly affect creative thinking via analytical thinking. In addition, students’ analytical thinking directly affects creative thinking. Participants in this research were students in one public university, so they may not be representative of students at other universities. Therefore, the effects of logical thinking, collaboration, and analytical thinking on creative thinking need to be investigated further. This research is one of only a few papers proposing a model for enhancing creative thinking. The model posits that logical thinking, analytical thinking and collaboration enhance creative thinking.

TL;DR: In this paper, a snapshot analysis of the Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps (AFJAGC) management is presented, where it currently is and where it is headed, and how it should get there.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe what the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps (AFJAGC) (USAF, 2018c) has been, where it currently is, where it is headed, and how it should get there, in terms of leadership style for managing its lawyers. The goal is accomplished by developing a formal lawyer management model. Theoretically, a model may be developed to bring the AFJAGC into the 21st century. This paper is a snapshot analysis as to how Air Force lawyers operate from a servant-leader perspective and grow in their management styles and skills. This paper addresses the management of professionals’ paradigm. Since there is very little on current literature on the management/leadership of lawyers, this paper may answer questions relating to managing lawyers and handling professionals in general. This should be beneficial to the military (the Air Force) and hopefully the legal industry as a whole.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the strategies and characteristics of foreign banks operating in an emerging market, which suffered radical transformations in its business landscape during the 1990's and the early 2000s.
Abstract: This paper offers theoretical and empirical insights about the strategies and characteristics of foreign banks operating in an emerging market, which suffered radical transformations in its business landscape during the 1990’s and the early 2000s. The results demonstrate foreign banks from countries with stronger commercial ties to the focal emerging market, a higher degree of internalization, and more aggressive lending practices (in the focal market) outperformed and or outlasted foreign banks with weaker commercial ties, lower degrees of internalization, and less aggressive lending practices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a Model of Differentiated Leadership Integration (MLEI) is proposed, linking specific leadership and influence behaviors reported by middle-managers to each form of distributed leadership.
Abstract: The landscape of distributed leadership has become littered with conceptual confusion. Spillane (2006) provided the foundation for a theory of distributed leadership by defining three conceptual forms: Collaborative, collective and coordinated. Despite its widespread intuitive appeal, traditional epistemological methods have hampered efforts to operationalize these distinct forms of leadership in practice. Cluster analysis provides an alternative method of analysis, revealing construct clarity by linking specific leadership and influence behaviors reported by middle-managers to each form of distributed leadership. Several forms of differentiated integration emerged from analysis, revealing more complexity than previously surmised and yielding a Model of Differentiated Leadership Integration.

TL;DR: In this paper, the implications of the changing legal environment relating to marijuana, specifically, tax-related issues and potential costs to employers with the resulting management issues are examined, such as increased difficulty of maintaining a drug-free workplace, the increased cost of on-the-job accidents, and the cost of lost productivity.
Abstract: This paper examines the implications of the changing legal environment relating to marijuana, specifically, tax-related issues and potential costs to employers with the resulting management issues. Tax issues such as unique sales and excise taxes on legalized marijuana, and proposed changes in the tax law in response to the legal changes regarding marijuana are discussed as well. The potential, hidden costs to employers are discussed such as the increased difficulty of maintaining a drug-free workplace, the increased cost of on-the-job accidents, and the cost of lost productivity; all of which lead to increased potential problems with management.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue for the need to adopt a dynamic approach towards the understanding of social capital that can provide insights on how social capital can be leveraged as a response to shifting contextual exigencies.
Abstract: We argue for the need to adopt a dynamic approach towards the understanding of social capital that can provide insights on how social capital can be leveraged as a response to shifting contextual exigencies. Our paper offers a unifying typology of social capital along four dimensions – autonomous, constrained, formative and normative. We develop the following four views of social capital – normative-constrained, normative-autonomous, formative-constrained, formative-autonomous. Furthermore, we draw on an empirical study in an agricultural cooperative to illustrate these four views and the varying sources of social capital manifested therein. It is this variation in use that undergirds our understanding of a dynamic conception of social capital.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examine the relationships between the factors that facilitate IP appropriation and innovation performance with a qualitative analysis of five case studies in the biotechnology and ICT industries.
Abstract: Intellectual property (IP) is critical to the development of competitive advantage. Anecdotal evidence and the literature suggest that SMEs find it difficult to appropriate their IP, due to high legal costs. This study examines the key determinants of IP appropriation strategy in technology- intensive SMEs. We examine the relationships between the factors that facilitate IP appropriation and innovation performance with a qualitative analysis of five case studies in the biotechnology and ICT industries. The results reveal that SMEs in both sectors rely on organizational resources, specific IP acquisition practices and various IP protection practices to facilitate IP appropriation.

TL;DR: The neoliberal turn in European economics was not largely the work of economists, but of technocrats in finance ministries and central banks as mentioned in this paper, who accepted their lead, responding to the loss of relative power to electorates and to organized labor.
Abstract: The neoliberal turn in European economics was not largely the work of economists, but of technocrats in finance ministries and central banks. Governments accepted their lead, responding to the loss of relative power to electorates and to organized labor. Politicians sought solutions to problems of economic management arising from the end of the Bretton Woods system of fixed exchange rates and from the Oil Crises of the 1970s. But in siding with technocrats informed by monetarist and neoliberal economists’ arguments, and in ceding to central bankers especially control of economic policy and EU negotiations over the Euro, politicians opened the door to increased power in the hands of mobile capital allied with technocrats in Finance Ministries and Central Banks. The most that can be said of economists as a profession is that they went along for the ride, happy with a new situation that celebrated their importance as consliglieri to the powerful.

TL;DR: Comparison of catalyst projects’ key health system performance indicators for baseline, endline, and post-training indicated positive results, and calls for innovative health worker training that yields impact.
Abstract: Kenya continues to face significant challenges in providing basic health services for all despite the devolution of health system functions. Some of these challenges have been attributed to healthcare leaders that are ill-equipped to succeed in their roles. This calls for innovative health worker training that yields impact. The purpose of this study was to describe health system leadership challenges in 19 counties in Kenya and how the challenges have been addressed. The research design is longitudinal without a random assignment. Comparison of catalyst projects’ key health system performance indicators for baseline, endline, and post-training indicated positive results (p=0.0018 and 0.7655) respectively
