TL;DR: Haynes and Raubitschek as discussed by the authors presented a Cretan shield inscribed in an archaic Cretans script on both sides of the abdominal guard worn by Greek warriors, which they called the "mitra" or abdominal guard.
Abstract: The Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities of the British Museum has recently acquired a semicircular bronze plate resembling in form the 'mitra' or abdominal guard worn by Greek warriors, and inscribed on both sides in an archaic Cretan script (Registration No. BM 1969. 4 2 . 1: Figs. 1, 2; Pis. I, II). Our warmest thanks are due to the Trustees of the British Museum for permission to publish this text, and especially to D. E. L. Haynes, Keeper of the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, for his courtesy in first informing us of the bronze, making it available for study, and giving us every assistance when working on it. At first a threefold study was envisaged, the third contributor being Professor A. E. Raubitschek of Stanford University, since he was already working on the publication of the inscribed Cretan armour now in the Fogg Museum, Harvard University; but in the event it proved more practicable for the two of us to whom the bronze was easily accessible to study it at the British Museum and to send a transcript, with our provisional translation and commentary, to Professor Raubitschek at Stanford. With characteristic generosity he has waived his right to appear here as a collaborator, though he has kindly added a note (pp. 155—156) and we have greatly profited from discussion with him by letter. We have appended his initials at specific points where his comments have saved us from error. His own conclusions on the document as a whole will be included in the publication of the material in the

TL;DR: In this paper, a new statuette representing an Hon debout sur un socle, and provenant d'Egypte, is presented, representing a breve legende hieroglyphique.
