Abstract: Forest management is strongly influenced by a suitable road network. This work is aimed to be a technical support for discussing the problem of road conditions in forest management and planning. The study area is the Badia Prataglia’s forest, which is enclosed in the Foreste Casentinesi National Park. Using G.I.S. technology we evaluated the forest accessibility, both for touristic-recreative and service purposes. This work shows the applied methodology, the phases to build a geographical data base and the survey of field data. Results and cartographic printouts are discussed.

Abstract: The use of remotely sensed data taken from satellite platforms is increasing within forest inventory and monitoring programs. To better model the complex relationships between spectral signatures and forest attributes the use of flexible classification procedures is needed: in such a context the k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN) is one of the most used and efficient non-parametric classifier. The aim of this study is to test different versions of the k-NN method to estimate stand volume, one of the most common forest attributes, in two different study sites in central Italy. Different methods for spectral distance computation are inter-compared and analyzed. Within the examined conditions the spectral distance modified by a multiregressive method achieves the best performance in terms of estimation accuracy, and therefore seems to be able to optimally use the information content of the available spectral bands.

Abstract: FDC 811.51 Il presente lavoro e il risultato di un’indagine bibliografica sui valori di ampiezza dell’alburno in diverse specie. I dati sono relativi nella maggior parte dei casi a piante mature e dominanti. Vengono inoltre riportati e discussi i fattori, endogeni ed esogeni, in grado di alterare il dato medio dell’ampiezza dell’alburno. E stato cosi realizzato uno strumento utile nei diversi campi della ricerca forestale: dall’endoterapia, alla dendrocronologia, dalla fisiologia delle piante forestali, alla tecnologia e piu in generale alle scienze del legno. INTRODUZIONE Conoscere l’ampiezza dell’alburno caratteristica di una specie e di fondamentale importanza in diversi campi della ricerca forestale e delle scienze del legno e rappresenta il punto di partenza anche in numerose applicazioni di tipo professionale. Ad esempio, nel campo dell’endoterapia, tecnica di cura delle piante che prevede l’iniezione a pressione nel tronco di sostanze con proprieta sistemiche (KOVACS, 1984), conoscere l’ampiezza dell’alburno per la specie da trattare consente di calibrare in maniera efficace il trattamento, evitando la dispersione del principio attivo nel durame. Cio si traduce evidentemente in un risparmio di prodotto. I metodi endoterapici adattati alle diverse specie risulterebbero cosi preferibili ad altre tecniche curative (aspersione, nebulizzazione, ecc.) che hanno il difetto di disperdere sostanze inquinanti nell’ambiente. Un’altra applicazione importante e nel campo della dendrocronologia.

Abstract: Following the objectives fixed by the Kyoto environmental conference, the European Union and the Italian Government have promoted actions directed towards the development and spread of renewable energy resources. Agenda 2000 has indicated no food crops (and among these energy crops ) as possible alternatives to be employed in setaside areas. Even the Tuscany Region Rural Development Plan (in compliance with the EU reg. 1257/99) includes (measure 8) the possibility of setting up plants for the production of biomass for energy purposes utilising poplars or other species. In the framework of regional policies, biomasses play an interesting role within the Tuscan Region Energy Plan. According to the plan, by the year 2010 agro-forestry biomasses should contribute to the regional production of electricity by 1.6%, corresponding to 92 MW. General public is now aware that green biomass represents a renewable resource that is widely available on the territory, and if utilised according to environmentally sustainable criteria, it allows for an economic development compatible with natural ecosystems. The importance of evaluating the development potentials of the biomass-energy sector issues from these premises and from considering the opportunities offered by new technologies both in terms of a wider range of available green combustibles ( chips and pellets ) and in terms of the grown capacity of enterprises in gathering and processing the products. The biomass-energy sector is based on the employment of industrial residues of silvicultural activities, residues coming from operations carried out on agricultural tree crops (vineyards, olive and fruit groves) and short rotation forestry (SRF) in marginal areas. Therefore we have individuated all the operations connected to the harvest of biomass, the processing in half-finished products ( chips ) and the production and marketing of finished products ( pellets or energy ). The methodology developed in the present paper was based both on territorial analyses carried out through GIS applications (for the evaluation of available resources) and on business analysis in order to define the most suitable firm typology for the collection and processing of the raw matter. The results emerging from the conjoint evaluation of the entrepreneurial structures and of resources available on the territory have led to the definition of «energy district» in which we can identify the quantity of resources sufficient to supply each local bio-energy network.

Abstract: FDC 862 L’articolo descrive le principali tipologie di pannelli a base di legno, ponendo particolare attenzione a quelli di produzione europea che trovano tradizionale impiego in edilizia, come materiali strutturali e non, e nel settore dell’arredamento. Mediante una breve analisi dell’influenza esercitata dalla geometria degli elementi legnosi unitari di cui i vari pannelli sono composti, viene evidenziato come facendo variare le dimensioni e la forma dei suddetti elementi, la loro disposizione reciproca, il tipo di adesivo e il metodo o le condizioni di composizione e pressatura, sia possibile realizzare un’ampia gamma di prodotti dalle proprieta peculiari. Viene quindi illustrato il quadro normativo di riferimento, presentando i criteri su cui si basano le nuove norme europee che costituiranno il necessario supporto tecnico alla produzione, commercializzazione e corretto impiego dei semilavorati in oggetto.
