TL;DR: To the authors' knowledge, this is the first time that a marine mammal has been found to be infected by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.
Abstract: A whale (Globicephalus melas), stranded on the north coast of Finistere, was the origin of a minor epidemic of Baker-Rosenbach erysipeloid. The clinical picture was that usually seen after contamination by marine animals (spiny fish, crabs, molluscs). To our knowledge, this is the first time that a marine mammal has been found to be infected by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.

TL;DR: The authors present 5 cases of pemphigus induced by D-penicillamine in a series of 180 cases of rheumatoid arthritis treated with this medication, and testing for antibodies was sought in 40 asymptomatic patients.
Abstract: The authors present 5 cases of pemphigus induced by D-penicillamine in a series of 180 cases of rheumatoid arthritis treated with this medication. In addition, anti-epidermal intercellular substance antibodies were sought in 40 asymptomatic patients. No antibodies were found in this group. The notion of induced pemphigus seems well established, as is the value of testing for antibodies in the surveillance of D-penicillamine treatment.

TL;DR: This technique, used in three diabetic patients with gangrenous lesions of the foot, has allowed to avoid amputation in two of them.
Abstract: The amputation of the lower extermity can be avoided in many patients, particularly in diabetics by means of the arterialization of thevenous net of the foot, whenever the classic techniques of revascularization cannot been used for the magnitud of the arterial lesions below the knee. This arterialization uses two venous autografts: one in the leg functionning as a channel and the second functionning as a regulator or a temporary discharge. This technique, used in three diabetic patients with gangrenous lesions of the foot, has allowed to avoid amputation in two of them.

TL;DR: The microscopic analysis of certain points in man and in animal has shown specific elements of the acupuncture point, under the form of a thickness of the epiderm, a modification of the collagen fibers of the derma, of the vascular spiral vessels surrounded by a network of a amyelinic fiber of the cholinergic type, with interlaced myelinic fibers.
Abstract: The research realised at INSERM, Unite 103, on the acupuncture analgesia in animal has brought to light certain phenomenon concerning physical, histological and physiological facts. The acupuncture point is a point having the least electrical resistance in relation to the surrounding teguments. The analgesia points studied has an even lower resistance than the other points of the same dermatoma. This is not bound to the phenomenon of surface, as it is also found in cadaver after having cleared the skin with alcohol, ether or acetone. The microscopic analysis of certain points in man and in animal has shown specific elements of the acupuncture point, under the form of a thickness of the epiderm, a modification of the collagen fibers of the derma, of the vascular spiral vessels surrounded by a network of a amyelinic fibers of the cholinergic type, with interlaced myelinic fibers. The acupuncture analgesia of the hind limb can be reproduced experimentally in rabbit, in a proportion of 72 percent in 58 rabbits. The algometric method chosen was the pin prick of the skin. This territorial analgesia can be transmitted by the serum on another rabbit.

TL;DR: An attempt at systematisation of changes in the patterns of circulatory speed is proposed, which may be used not only by the clinician but also the statistician.
Abstract: Ultra-sonic recording using a directional flowmeter in the peripheral arteries is an essential part of vascular studies. An attempt at systematisation of changes in the patterns of circulatory speed is proposed, which may be used not only by the clinician but also the statistician.

TL;DR: In transplanted patients with previous renal insufficiency, arteriographies, even selective, did not seem to be more dangerous than highdose urographies, and the degree of seriousness of nephrotoxic accidents seems to be increased when the iodine dose is more than 1 g/kg b.w.
Abstract: The effects of renal arteriography (n = 94) and intraveinous urography (n = 137) on renal function were studied in 80 renal transplant recipients. No damage to renal function was noted when these investigations were performed in patients with normal renal function. In transplanted patients with previous renal insufficiency, arteriographies, even selective, did not seem to be more dangerous than highdose urographies. The degree of seriousness of nephrotoxic accidents seems to be increased when the iodine dose is more than 1 g/kg b.w. and when the investigations are repeated within short intervals.

TL;DR: Use of the medication in 14 cases of major gout with tophi and 9 cases of hyperuricaemia secondary to renal insufficiency showed the good tolerance of the substance and it's clinical and biological effectiveness.
Abstract: In addition to uricosuric agents and purine synthesis inhibitors, Urate Oxydase may be used in the treatment of hyperuricaemia This substance breaks down uric acid to allantoin which is soluble and easily excreted Use of the medication in 14 cases of major gout with tophi and 9 cases of hyperuricaemia secondary to renal insufficiency showed the good tolerance of the substance and it's clinical and biological effectiveness

TL;DR: Twenty-seven subjects with insomnia or diurnal hypersomnolence presented a sleep apnea syndrome when their respiration was systematically checked during sleep, and two children underwent tracheostomies which by-passed the sleep-induced obstruction.
Abstract: Twenty-seven subjects with insomnia or diurnal hypersomnolence presented a sleep apnea syndrome when their respiration was systematically checked during sleep. These sleep-induced respiratory abnormalities were completely occult and pulmonary function tests performed during wakefulness were normal. The patients, all non-obese, presented serious pulmonary artery pressure changes which were directly connected with the repetitive sleep apneas. Half of the patients also had systemic hypertension. Two children (aged 11 and 15) underwent tracheostomies which by-passed the sleep-induced obstruction. Systemic hypertension was reduced after surgery.

TL;DR: The case of a renal transplantation performed with the kidney of an asymptomatic female carrier of Fabry's disease, and the characteristic lesions of the glomerular epithelial cells, noted as early as 11 days after transplantation, are unchanged on the successive biopsies, suggests that some heterozygotes (perhaps all of them) haveglomerular changes.
Abstract: We report the case of a renal transplantation performed with the kidney of an asymptomatic female carrier of Fabry's disease. The recipient, her daughter, had normal alpha-galactosidase levels. Eight years after transplantation, the characteristic lesions of the glomerular epithelial cells, noted as early as 11 days after transplantation, are unchanged on the successive biopsies. This observation suggests that 1) some heterozygotes (perhaps all of them) have glomerular changes, 2) the glomerular changes are not modified if the kidney is placed in a normal enzymatic "environment".
