Abstract: Working with excavated texts as well as other early Chinese writings often neglected by scholars, this study reveals the clear and powerful outlines of a historical trajectory centered on the Daodejing that does not easily fit into the category of religion or philosophy but, by virtue of their fundamental non-separability, transcends both. The book closely examines the genetic relation between early Daoist bodily cultivation and the Daodejing’s philosophy of the Dao. It begins with an exploration of the ancient excavated texts of the Laozi from Guodian and Mawangdui to understand the early Daoist matrix of bodily cultivation and their relation to the Daodejing’s ideas concerning being and nothingness, and permanency versus temporalization. It then examines the Han Dynasty Heshang Gong Commentary to the Daodejing and its transformation of the teachings of the Daodejing into a political philosophy grounded in spiritual cultivation. It closes with an analysis of the writings of

TL;DR: Aguilar as discussed by the authors discusses the importance of the Dalai Lama to the notion of a global human family and offers valuable insights into the role of dialogue between Buddhism and many other traditions, yet he also notes that the Vatican-Dalai Lama relations have suffered from external pressure, regarding the PRC's (People's Republic of China) policies that could create obstacles for Catholics inside China.
Abstract: Dalai Lama is engaged in, especially when it comes to an interfaith dialogue, and more importantly, an encounter with other human beings. Aguilar also mentions the importance given by the Dalai Lama to the notion of a global human family and offers valuable insights into the role of dialogue between Buddhism and many other traditions, yet he also notes that it seems that the Vatican-Dalai Lama relations have suffered from external pressure, regarding the PRC’s (People’s Republic of China) policies that could create obstacles for Catholics inside China. This book is special in many ways for scholars, students and all who are interested in the importance of the Dalai Lama as a key figure in shaping our global society in the dialogue between politics, religion, and peacekeeping. Last but not least, it is one of the few works available that analyse the Dalai Lama (and Tibetan Buddhism) as contributors to a different ethical approach towards conflict resolution.

TL;DR: The Oxford Handbook of the Bible in Orthodox Christianity as discussed by the authors investigates the various ways in which Eastern and Oriental communities have received, shaped, and interpreted the Christian Bible, and the ways by which Orthodox biblical scholars balance traditional hermeneutics with modern historical-critical approaches to the Bible.
Abstract: The Oxford Handbook of the Bible in Orthodox Christianity investigates the various ways in which Orthodox Christian, i.e., Eastern and Oriental communities have received, shaped, and interpreted the Christian Bible. The introduction, “Balancing Tradition with Modernity,” sets the tone and scope of the volume, and is followed by five parts. Part I, “Text”: The Orthodox Church has never codified the Septuagint or any other textual witnesses as its authoritative text. Textual fluidity and pluriformity, a characteristic of Orthodoxy, is demonstrated by the various ancient and modern Bible translations such as, Syriac, Coptic, Ethiopian, Armenian, etc. Part II, “Canon”: In the Protestant and Roman Catholic situations, the canon of the Bible, specifically the Old Testament canons are “closed” and limited to thirty-nine and forty-six books, respectively. In contrast, the Orthodox canon is “open-ended,” consisting of thirty-nine canonical books and ten or more (e.g., Ethiopian canon) anaginoskomena “readable” books (Septuagint additions). Part III, “Scripture within Tradition”: Unlike the classical Protestant view of sola scriptura and the Roman Catholic way of placing Scripture and Tradition on par as sources—means of divine revelation, the Orthodox view accords a central role to Scripture within Tradition, with the latter conceived not as a deposit of faith but rather as the Church’s life through history. Part IV, “Toward an Orthodox Hermeneutics,” and Part V, “Looking to the Future”: The last two parts survey Orthodox “traditional” hermeneutics consisting mainly of patristic commentaries and liturgical interpretations found in hymnography and iconography, and the ways by which Orthodox biblical scholars balance these traditional hermeneutics with modern historical-critical approaches to the Bible.

TL;DR: Katie Marcar as mentioned in this paper examines how 1 Peter draws together metaphors of family, ethnicity, temple, and priesthood to describe Christian identity, and explains why it is important for Christians to think of themselves as one family and ethnic group.
Abstract: In this book, Katie Marcar examines how 1 Peter draws together metaphors of family, ethnicity, temple, and priesthood to describe Christian identity. She examines the precedents for these metaphors in Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity in order to highlight the originality, creativity and theological depth of the text. She then explores how these metaphors are combined and developed in 1 Peter to create complex, narratival metaphors which reframe believers' understanding of themselves, their community, and their world. Integrating insights on ethnicity and race in the ancient and modern world, as well as insights from metaphor studies, Marcar examines why it is important for Christians to think of themselves as one family and ethnic group. Marcar concludes by distilling the metaphors of divine regeneration down to their underlying systematic metaphors.
