Abstract: Diagnostic measures in 5 case reports of laparoscopic removal of IUDs are discussed and comparisons of perforation rates of various IUDs are presented. Laparoscopic removal is encouraged where possible because of the advantages of short hospitalization and minimal postoperative discomfort.

Abstract: The long-acting contraceptive agent medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) was studied in 118 patients for a total of 1466 months of use. The women received a single 150 mg injection of MPA every 3 months. 51 of the subjects discontinued use for reasons that included weight gain nervousness and bleeding. Irregular or prolonged bleeding was the most common side effect though the bleeding usually stopped after 8-12 weeks. All of the pregnancies occurring after the termination of use were normal. The effect of the prolonged use of MPA is not known.
