TL;DR: The role of plasminogen binding to fibrin, cellular receptors, and extracellular ligands in various functions performed by plAsmin thus formed is reviewed.
Abstract: The main physiological function of plasmin is blood clot fibrinolysis and restoration of normal blood flow. To date, however, it became apparent that in addition to thrombolysis, the plasminogen/plasmin system plays an important physiological and pathological role in a number of other essential processes: degradation of the extracellular matrix, embryogenesis, cell migration, tissue remodeling, wound healing, angiogenesis, inflammation, and tumor cell migration. This review focuses on structural features of plasminogen, regulation of its activation by physiological plasminogen activators, inhibitors of plasmin, and plasminogen activators, and the role of plasminogen binding to fibrin, cellular receptors, and extracellular ligands in various functions performed by plasmin thus formed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the regularities of the reaction of aminopolysaccharide chitosan with glutaraldehyde (GA) have been considered and the equilibrium forms of GA in water have been thoroughly studied by NMR spectroscopy.
Abstract: The regularities of the reaction of aminopolysaccharide chitosan with glutaraldehyde (GA) have been considered. The equilibrium forms of GA in water have been thoroughly studied by NMR spectroscopy. It has been established that at pH 5.6, the exchange of the protons of O=CHCH2 groups for deuterium occurs, indicating the presence of an anion, a product of the first stage of the aldol reaction; at pH > 7.2, the formation of the products of an aldol reaction and aldol condensation takes place. The kinetics of the reaction between the amino groups of chitosan and GA, the kinetics of gel formation in chitosan solutions in the presence of GA, and the kinetics of changes in the rigidity of gels formed have been studied by UV spectroscopy. IR spectra of cross-linked chitosan have been obtained. It has been shown that chitosan catalyzes the polymerization of GA to form irregular products; in this process, the length of oligomeric chains in modified or cross-linked chitosan and the concentration of conjugated bonds increase with the GA concentration and pH of the reaction medium.

TL;DR: A review of pectin substances, the most complex class of plant polysaccharides, can be found in this paper, where new data on the structure, physiological activity, their role in plants, and their valuable physical properties are surveyed.
Abstract: This review concerns pectin substances, the most complex class of plant polysaccharides. For the most part, the data reported after 1998 are presented; the references to earlier works are made only in the historical aspect. New data on the structure of pectin substances, their physiological activity, their role in plants, and their valuable physical properties are surveyed.

TL;DR: Results showed that quercetin 3-O-glucoside exhibits high antioxidant effect, it has low cytotoxicity and no antibacterial effects, and it is assumed that Q3G does not play a defense role in plants and it may act as an allelopatic agent.
Abstract: Cytotoxic, phytotoxic, antimicrobial and antioxidant effects of quercetin 3- O -glucoside (Q3G) iso- lated by HPLC from aerial parts of Prangos ferulaceae was studied by MTT assay, lettuce germination assay, disk diffusion and DPPH method. Our results showed that Q3G exhibits high antioxidant effect with RC 50 of 22 µ g/mL, it has low cytotoxicity and no antibacterial effects. Q3G exhibits high phytotoxic effect with IC 50 value of 282.7 µ g/ml, as well. It is assumed that Q3G does not play a defense role in plants and it may act as an allelopatic agent.

TL;DR: The fucoidan is suggested to be a highly sulfated partially acetylated galactofucan (Fuc/Gal is ∼1: 1), and the main lipid components of the dried L. gurjanovae are neutral lipids and glyceroglycolipids, whereas phospholipids are found in minor amounts.
Abstract: Polysaccharide and lipid composition of the Pacific brown seaweed Laminaria gurjanovae is determined. Alginic acid is shown to be the main polysaccharide of its biomass (about 28%); it consists of mannuronic and guluronic acid residues at a ratio of 3: 1. The yield of water-soluble polymannuronic acid is low and does not exceed 1.1% of dry biomass. High laminaran content (about 22%) is found, whereas the yield of fucoidan is no more than 3.6%. Laminaran consists of two fractions, soluble and insoluble in cold water, their ratio is 2.5: 1. Insoluble laminaran is a practically linear 1,3-β-D-glucan, and the soluble fraction was shown to be 1,3;1,6-β-D-glucan. The oligosaccharide products of desulfation or partial acidic hydrolysis of fucoidan were studied by MALDI TOF MS; they were found to be fuco- and galactooligosaccharides. The fucoidan is suggested to be a highly sulfated partially acetylated galactofucan (Fuc/Gal is ∼1: 1). The main lipid components of the dried L. gurjanovae are neutral lipids and glyceroglycolipids, whereas phospholipids are found in minor amounts. The main fatty acid components of lipids are 14:0, 16:0, 16:1 ω-7, 18:1 ω-7 and 18:2 ω-6 acids.
