Most important information is to be found in periodicals and newsletters. This bibliography offers a basic listing of journals in the fields of medical and uocational rehabilitation, special education, and journals written for disabled people themsleues. Existing data bases are mentioned and the continuing need for a central information clearinghouse cited.

TL;DR: The authors argue that the developed machine systems of the future will not be based on the authors' present linear machine records, but will operate upon a complex network of simple records, which will have special application to the problems relating to the control of bibliographic information on serials.
Abstract: The authors argue that the developed machine systems of the future will not be based on our present linear machine records, but will operate upon a complex network of simple records. Such a network will have special application to the problems relating to the control of bibliographic information on serials. The problems of chronological and hierarchical linkage of serials are analyzed and related to the proposed new system. The proposed system will also provide beneficial effects for serials check-in, serials cataloging and the users of catalogs.

TL;DR: Survey of moderate-sized academic libraries in the United States suggested environmental factors exist that effect the efficiency of information retrieval through indexes and abstracts.
Abstract: Moderate-sized academic libraries in the United States were surveyed to determine current practices in the housing of periodical indexes and abstracts. TL;DR: This article describes the development and expansion of the project from local to statewide scope, the construction of the MARC-compatible data base, and the editorial conventions and publication procedures.
Abstract: With 15 CRT terminals located in participating libraries, this Union List project in 1979 effectively represents Missouri's first statewide, online, bibliographic data base. This article describes the development and expansion of the project from local to statewide scope, the construction of the MARC-compatible data base, and the editorial conventions and publication procedures. Anticipated program changes and future growth possibilities are outlined. Throughout the project, emphasis is placed on structured network participation.

TL;DR: For most readers, the appeal of print is less for weighty wordage than for the purple passage, for somebody else's struggles to cope with life's temptations and opportunities for mischief as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Nothing more closely mirrors the lives, needs, and aspirations of the mass of humanity than their leisure-time reading. This said it is clear that for most readers the appeal of print is less for weighty wordage than for the purple passage, for somebody else's struggles to cope with life's temptations and opportunities for mischief We are-as we always have been- fascinated by anything in print that titillates both our senses and an innate respect for what is 'right.'In this light, it is worth pursuing the development of literature that most pundits deem unworthy of study: the broadside, chapbook, ballad, 'blood,' dreadful,' pulp, cheap journal, and the like. We can learn more about ordinary folk from them than from a whole roomful of English Lit.

Abstract: Osborn's contributions to the theory and practice of serials cataloging cannot be minimized. He does, however, commit what might be termed excesses in some of the changes he proposes. This paper examines these changes with the end of accomodating them to the demands of practical necessity.

TL;DR: The Napa City-County Library's local newspaper index includes only Napa County subjects and persons and was developed to provide a portable authority file and to instruct indexers on indexing principles, scope rules, and difficult components.
Abstract: The Napa City-County Library's local newspaper index includes only Napa County subjects and persons. The index encompasses two sets of newspapers-selected papers from 1857 to 1900 and a current daily paper. The two indexes have different scopes and are housed separately but share a common subject authority file and format. An indexer's manual was developed to provide a portable authority file and to instruct indexers on indexing principles, scope rules, and difficult components. It is for sale. Subject headings follow conventional library practice. Related subjects are grouped under general headings and then alphabetically by proper name. Geographical subheadings are used liberally. Library staff and a few volunteers do the indexing.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that there is a need for more information about physically disabled persons and that this understanding is best gained from contact with the disabled them- selues.
Abstract: Recent federal legislation mandates integration of disabled Americans into the mainstream of our society. Consequently, there is a need for more information about physically disabledpersons. Librarians andotherprofessionals must acquire a realistic understanding of theperspectiues and concerns ofpeople with disabilitites. This understanding is best gained from contact with the disabled them- selues. While extensiue personal contact with the disabled is not possible for many people, they can acquire this understanding by reading the periodical literature pub- lished for (and often by) disabled persons. These periodicals serve several important functions for disabled consumers, and their emphases have changed as the information demands of the disabled have evolved over the years. To librarians and otherprofession- als, these periodicals offer information not found elsewhere about publications and services for the disabled. More importantly, they can educate librarians, rehabilitation professionals, and the general public about the needs and abilities of those Americans who are physically disabled.
