TL;DR: In this article, the contextual independence/dependence of consumers' associations with the colors blue and black was assessed by using association learning theory to specify the hypotheses, and the hypotheses were tested through a paired sample t-test.
Abstract: Mirroring an increasing awareness of the importance of colors, today marketing managers are paying increasing attention to the deployment of color in marketing as well as to the applicability of universal color associations. Two colors considered to carry several specific universal associations are blue and black. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to assess the contextual independence/dependence of consumers’ associations with the colors blue and black. Associative learning theory was deployed to specify the hypotheses. The hypotheses were tested through a paired sample t-test. The results show that the universal associations with the colors are different from the associations with the colors when they are displayed in a specific context. The implications for further research and limitations of the study are presented. Managers may want to consider the associations colors have in the specific context rather than relying on universal associations of colors.

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of commercial banks credit on agricultural productivity in Nigeria was examined using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) technique and three hypotheses were tested; all the alternative hypotheses were validated by the OLS result.
Abstract: This study was carried out to examine the impact of commercial banks’ credits on agricultural productivity in Nigeria. The aim is to determine the relationship between commercial banks credit and agricultural productivity in the Nigeria economy. The statistical tool of analysis is the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) techniques. However the variables were subjected to the Unit Root Test to ensure stationarity before the application of the OLS. On the whole, three hypotheses were tested; all the alternative hypotheses were validated by the OLS result. The t-calculated of commercial banks credit has a value of 6.28 which is greater than the t-critical of 1.96. This is an indication of positive relationship between commercial banks’ credit and agricultural productivity. The t-calculated of interest rate on commercial banks credit has a value of -9.38 as against 1.96 t-critical. This is an indication of a negative relationship between interest rate and agricultural productivity. While the t-calculated of government spending, as a complimentary variable, has a value of 3.42 as against the 1.96 of t-critical. This, as the case of hypothesis one, is also indication of significant positive relationship between government spending and agricultural productivity in Nigeria. Based on the findings, we recommended that the Agricultural Credit, Guarantee Scheme should improve on their conditions for credit guarantee in order to make agricultural financing attractive to commercial banks. Furthermore, the paper advocates amongst others, that the government should subsidized interest rate to the International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences Nov 2015, Vol. 5, No. 11 ISSN: 2222-6990 338 www.hrmars.com agricultural sector and stop fuel subsidy as this will provide more benefit to the society than the fuel subsidy.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of multiple taxation on the performance of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) were examined and the relationship between SMEs' size and their ability to pay taxes was found to be significant.
Abstract: This study is on the effects of multiple taxation on the performance of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). Over the years, small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) have been an avenue of job creation and the empowerment of Nigerian citizens, providing about 50% of all jobs in Nigeria and also for local capital formation. However, the mortality rate of these small firms is very high. Among the factors responsible for these untimely close-ups are tax related issues, ranging from multiple taxation to enormous tax burdens. The study therefore examines the effect of multiple taxation on SMEs survival. The study involves a survey research design with a population of 91. The researchers derived their sample size to arrive at 74 and a selfadministered questionnaire was used to collect data. This data was quantitatively analyzed with simple percentages and the research hypotheses were tested with ANOVA. Findings revealed that multiple taxation has negative effect on SMEs’ survival and the relationship between SMEs’ size and its ability to pay taxes is significant. The research therefore, recommends that government should come up with uniform tax policies that will favour the development of SMEs in Nigeria and government should put into consideration the size of SMEs when formulating tax policies.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of sectoral allocation of Deposit Money Banks' loans and advances on economic growth in Nigeria during intensive regulation, deregulation and guided deregulation regimes was investigated, and the results showed that only the credit allocated to government, personal and professional have significant positive contributions on economic development.
Abstract: The study investigates the impact of sectoral allocation of Deposit Money Banks’ loans and advances on economic growth in Nigeria during intensive regulation, deregulation and guided deregulation regimes. Regression analysis of the ordinary least square method is performed for each of the three regimes. The results show that only the credit allocated to government, personal and professional have significant positive contributions on economic growth during the intensive regulation. However, bank credits generally do not contribute significantly to economic growth during deregulation. Introduction of guided deregulation appears to be a success as commercial bank’s loans and advances to production and other subsector are both positive and significant in determining growth. Based on the empirical findings, Nigerian deposit money banks should be more favourably disposed to extending more credits to production and other subsectors namely agriculture, manufacturing, mining and quarrying, real estate and construction, government, personal and professional at reasonable interest rate. Finally, monetary authorities should ensure the continuance of guided deregulation as opposed to intensive regulation or total deregulation.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the significance relationship between the elements of FTT and fraud incidences towards combating the fraud outrages in the Nigerian public sectors and found that various factors are linked to the fraud perpetration in the public sector such as greediness of high-profile government officials and poor standard of living for the lower rank officers.
Abstract: Detecting and preventing fraud is not an easy task, especially in the Nigerian public sector because it requires comprehensive knowledge about the nature of fraud, how it can be perpetrated and obscured by the fraudsters. Consequently, this study was, conducted with the primary aim to examine the significance relationships between the elements of FTT and fraud incidences towards combating the fraud outrages in the Nigerian public sectors. It was found that various factors are linked to the fraud perpetration in the public sector such as greediness of the high-profile government officials and poor standard of living for the lower rank officers. Equally, it is suggested that the Nigerian government should establish Salary Scale Reform (SSR) to increase the civil servants’ salary and provides fringe benefits to improve employees’ standard of living. Additionally, the Nigerian government should initiate a training scheme such as workshop, seminar and conference to enhance the employees’ moral behaviour and understand the negative impact of fraud on their behaviour and Nigerian economy. The study will immensely help Nigerian government and anti-graft bodies to understand why and how the public servants commit fraud so as to apply an appropriate control measure to combat the menace. From the academic perspective, this study stems to bridge the gap of insufficient study in relation to the application of FTT toward curtailing the broad range of possible causes of fraudulent activities.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the effect of Huduma centres in service delivery to the public in Mombasa town, and found that they have little impact on the effectiveness or efficiency of the civil service.
Abstract: Historically, the Government of Kenya has grappled with the problem of poor service delivery in its public service. The government in the early 1990s tried a range of interventions to remedy this situation. The Government retrenched more than 100,000 civil servants but had only a negligible impact on the effectiveness or efficiency of the civil service. The Government then introduced results-oriented management, but by 2005 nothing much had come out of it. In 2013, the government introduced the concept of Huduma Centres, to transform public service delivery by providing citizens access to various public services and information. It aims to provide efficient government services at the convenience of the citizen by amalgamating related services within one building, possibly on the same floor, effectively making it possible for service seekers to access it conveniently. However, many questions have been raised on whether Huduma centres have added any value to service delivery. The study, therefore, seeks to assess the effect of Huduma centres in service delivery to the public. The main objective of this study was to analyze the effect of Huduma Centres in service delivery within Mombasa town. The specific objectives of the study were; to establish if Huduma Centres influence transparency in service delivery; to assess if they enhance reliability of government services, and to determine if the centres result in customer satisfaction in government service delivery. The study adopted a case study research design. In this investigation, the population comprised members of the public accessing government services at the Centre. The study used purposive sampling method to select 30 respondents for data collection. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors re-considers the empirical investigation of the link between domestic private investment and economic growth in Nigeria, using the Cob-Douglas model framework, and concludes that macroeconomic policies and overall macroeconomic stability are quite essential for the promotion of domestic private investments.
Abstract: This study re-considers the empirical investigation of the link between domestic private investment and economic growth in Nigeria, using the Cob-Douglas model framework. The model is estimated using Error Correction Modeling (ECM) approach and annual data covering 1970 to 2012 was used. The study shows the significance of investment on real gross domestic product (RGDP). The result of tests reveals equilibrium relationship between real GDP and its determinants in the long and short-run. An important finding of the study is that, like most other studies, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) should at best complement domestic private investment. We therefore, conclude that macroeconomic policies and overall macroeconomic stability is quite essential for the promotion of domestic private investment.

TL;DR: In this article, the role of perceived work-life balance and job satisfaction in developing commitment among hospital employees was explored, and gender difference was also taken into consideration to draw concrete conclusion.
Abstract: This study is aimed to explore the role of perceived work-life balance and job satisfaction in developing commitment among hospital employees. In addition to that, gender difference is also taken into consideration to draw concrete conclusion. The study is quantitative in nature. Based on the literature review it is proposed that work-life balance and satisfaction will be significantly contributing in developing commitment among the chosen respondents. In order to measure selected variables 13 items were adopted to measure work-life balance (Chaney, 2007; Gutak et.al., 1991). Job satisfaction is measured by Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). 11 items were selected from work commitment index to measure organizational commitment (Blau et al.,1993). Results revealed a moderate level of work-life balance, job satisfaction and organizational commitment among the chosen employees. Significant relationship is found between work-life balance and job satisfaction. Work interfering family life and family interfering work life are found positively related with organizational commitment. Male and female respondent are found significantly different in their level of commitment, perceived work interfering family life and perceived family interfering work life.
