TL;DR: A gradient of high trimethylamine concentration in the belly cavity, decreasing through the muscle to low values at the skin, rapidly develops and can be seen in gutted cod stored in melting ice.
Abstract: Bacterial counts, trimethylamine and trimethylamine oxide concentrations, and pH in gutted cod stored in melting ice show that spoilage originates in the belly cavity. Bacteria do not penetrate the muscle until spoilage is well advanced, but the substrates, trimethylamine oxide, etc., diffuse outward to the surface and the bacterial products diffuse rapidly into the muscle. Leaching by the ice water lowers the concentration of trimethylamine oxide at the skin. A gradient of high trimethylamine concentration in the belly cavity, decreasing through the muscle to low values at the skin, rapidly develops.

TL;DR: In water saturated with O2, developing embryos tolerated a wider range of pH and CO2 values than is prevalent in the sea and the spawning ground mortality is presumed not to be due to such factors.
Abstract: Laboratory experiments were made to ascertain whether an observed mortality of herring eggs under natural conditions could have been due to respiratory difficulties caused by low CO2 or high O2 con...

TL;DR: Recovery of surviving adults—few in the commercial fishery, few in the original native spawning areas, none at Eagle river from the Cultus lake egg transfers and very few from the Adams river shipments—indicates that restoration of depleted sockeye areas cannot be achieved merely by introducing eggs from any outside well-populated areas.
Abstract: Eggs from Cultus lake, a lower Fraser river tributary, and from Adams river, in the Shuswap lake region, were transferred to Eagle river, a formerly important sockeye salmon stream at the head of S...

TL;DR: An accurate colorimetric method for nitrite determination using sulphanilamide and N-N-oxide was developed in this paper, using the Waring blendor, which is used to extract nitrite from fish tissue.
Abstract: Sodium nitrite is quantitatively extracted from fish tissue by water in the Waring blendor. An accurate colorimetric method for nitrite determination has been developed, using sulphanilamide and N-...

TL;DR: Down-river oysters are fuller-meated (fatter) than those up-river, but sometimes oysters fatten at water temperatures below 15 °C.
Abstract: Down-river oysters are fuller-meated (fatter) than those up-river. When fishing and replanting is done before fall fattening begins it affects fatness. Then, the disturbance of fishing and re-planting on the native bed improves fatness. Oysters transferred from up- to down-river beds show vast improvement, becoming fatter than native down-river stocks. Conversely, downriver oysters transferred up-river fail to fatten as well as the native up-river stock. Sometimes oysters fatten at water temperatures below 15 °C., which was formerly considered the lower threshold.
