TLDR
An automatic choke for an internal combustion engine includes a rotary solenoid which is energized when the engine is cranked by the starter motor as mentioned in this paper, and a bimetallic temperature responsive spring coupling the solanoid to the choke valve adjusts the amount of choking in response to the ambient temperature.Abstract:
An automatic choke for an internal combustion engine includes a rotary solenoid which is energized when the engine is cranked by the starter motor. During starting, the solenoid rotates a choke valve to its starting position in which choking is applied, and a bimetallic temperature responsive spring coupling the solenoid to the choke valve adjusts the amount of choking in response to the ambient temperature. A stop element limits the range over which the bimetallic spring adjusts the position of the choke valve.read more

TL;DR: In this article, an automatic choke apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine is described. But it is not shown how to control the choke valve and the thermally responsive member of the assembly.

Constant force spring actuator
TL;DR: In this paper, the shape memory alloy springs are attached to the output device to apply a directional force, and when one of the springs is heated, the modulus of elasticity within the spring material changes, which increases the force which the spring exerts in returning to its static state.

Engine control method
TL;DR: In this paper, an internal combustion engine at low temperatures is closed to the extent necessary to provide fuel which will maintain the mean effective pressure of combustion equal to the MEPS occurring during operation at normal temperatures.
Patent
Electromechanical choke system for an internal combustion engine
TL;DR: An engine starting system for an internal combustion engine as discussed by the authors includes a starter switch electrically connected between a battery and a starter motor, and a choke valve disposed in an air intake of an air/fuel mixing device for the engine.
Patent
Rotary solenoid with indirectly coupled output shaft
TL;DR: A rotary solenoid with an output shaft that is indirectly coupled to the rotor or armature of the rotary unit can be found in this paper, where the armature has an integral hub and spaced poles with the pole pieces being rotatably positionable within the space between the hub and poles.

Mixture control for internal combustion engines
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a means for producing a temporary enrichment of the mixture supplied to an internal combustion engine while the engine is being started, and it is their object to produce such a device in which a single temperature-responsive means will control the proportions.
Patent
Fuel mixture control
TL;DR: In this article, a method of and mechanism for automatically controlling the richness of the fuel mixture supplied by the carburetor of an internal combustion engine is described. But this method is not suitable for the case of a single-cylinder engine.
Patent
Fuel mixture control
TL;DR: In this article, means responsive to the temperature of the engine are employed to adjust the flow of fuel in the carburetor to regulate the mixture during normal operation of an engine, and means are provided which also effect an automatic adjustment of the fuel flow to the engine in accordance with variations in atmospheric pressure such as occurs at different elevations.
