Classical conditioning of a sexual deviation: A preliminary note

TLDR
The problems often associated with aversion therapy led the authors of as discussed by the authors to make use of a classical conditioning paradigm in the treatment of a young pedophiliac, initially employing pictures of young girls as the UCS and of mature women as the CS, was successful in effecting normal heterosexual responsiveness outside the clinic as well as in the laboratory situation.

Classical conditioning of human 'evaluative' responses.

TL;DR: It is discussed that evaluation of the UCS by the subject, shown to be a sufficient condition for learning, may also be the only necessary condition, which would imply a model of conditioning based on affective evaluation rather than on response production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Human evaluative conditioning: acquisition trials, presentation schedule, evaluative style and contingency awareness.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of evaluative learning on the number of acquisition trials and the presentation schedule of stimulus pairs was investigated using the neutral picture-dis)liked picture pairing paradigm (Baeyens, Eelen & Van den Bergh, 1990).

A Conditioning Theory of the Etiology and Maintenance of Deviant Sexual Preference and Behavior

TL;DR: In this paper, the etiology of sexual deviance has been studied and no theories of etiology which have other than laboratory demonstrations of plausibility or anecdotal support have been proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of Fantasy in the Treatment of Sexual Deviation

TL;DR: It is suggested that such "crossfertilization" between psychoanalytic and behavioral therapists may prevent unnecessary duplication of investigation, advance the state of knowledge more rapidly, and demonstrate that there may be more similarities in the two views than had been suspected previously.
Journal ArticleDOI

Increasing heterosexual responsiveness in the treatment of sexual deviation: A review of the clinical and experimental evidence

TL;DR: Clinical and experimental evidence for the effectiveness of therapeutic procedures to increase heterosexual responsiveness is evaluated, and the relationship of these procedures to aversion therapy in the treatment of sexual deviation is discussed.

Sexual fetishism: An experimental analogue.

S. Rachman
- 01 Jul 1966 -
TL;DR: In this paper, a colored photographic slide was repeatedly projected on a screen immediately prior to the presentation of slides of sexually arousing nude women, and conditioned sexual responses to a pair of female boots were established by the following method.

Experimentally-Induced “Sexual Fetishism”: Replication and Development

TL;DR: In this article, five Ss were conditioned to give sexual response to a photograph of a pair of knee-length boots (CS) and then the response was extinguished by repeated presentation of the CS alone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental control of sexual deviation through manipulation of the noxious scene in covert sensitization.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that verbal description of the nauseous scene was an effective aversive stimulus, and pairing this scene with scenes of the undesired behavior was responsible for declines in deviant sexual behavior during covert sensitization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recovery from sexual deviations through overcoming non-sexual neurotic responses

TL;DR: Three cases of sexual deviation are reported in which a return to normal heterosexual behavior followed the development of assertive behavior on the part of the patients, and it is suggested that the concept of "repressed emotion" has hindered an understanding of the processes of recove...
