Coater die edge finishing method
TLDR
A method of microfinishing the edge of a die component (8) includes polishing the edges after the die component is machined by known methods to finish the edges of the Die component to a smoother finish than the rest of the die components as mentioned in this paper.Abstract:
A method of microfinishing the edge of a die component (8) includes polishing the edges after the die component is machined by known methods to finish the edges of the die component to a smoother finish than the rest of the die component. This eliminates the incidence of undesirable streaking defects in the coating. The polishing step can be lapping, vapor honing, or grit blasting. The edges are polished to a finish of less than 8 microinches.read more

Method for coating a plurality of fluid layers onto a substrate
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for reducing the defects caused by strikethrough when simultaneously slide coating a first fluid layer, a second fluid layer and a third fluid layer was proposed.
Patent
Method of improving coating uniformity
James M. Nelson,Raghunath Padiyath,Robert B. Secor,Mark J. Stevenson,Michael J. Tichy,Robert A. Yapel +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a shim is formed which has a thickness variation of less than or equal to about 0.5 mil (13 microns) total indicated runout, and a slot is formed between the first surface and the second surface.
Patent
Reduced die lip buildup extrusion of polymer compositions
TL;DR: In this article, a process for die extrusion of melted polymers that reduces die lip buildup and its deleterious effects is described, which avoids a precompounding step and reduces the tendency of polymer and filler particles to adhere to the exit portion of the die.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for reducing visible defects in curable coating compositions is described, which includes coating a curable composition onto a substrate, removing solvent from the curable mixture, and heating the dried curable material to a temperature at which the rendered liquid exhibits leveling flow.
Patent
Method of fabricating die coater parts
TL;DR: The vertical orientation of the die block (28) substantially removes the effect of gravity on any residual stress during measuring as mentioned in this paper, and the steps of machining, positioning, and measuring are repeated until the desired total indicated run-out is achieved.

Patent
Abrasive article, a process of making same, and a method of using same to finish a workpiece surface
TL;DR: An abrasive article is a sheet-like structure having a major surface and having deployed in a fixed position thereon a plurality of abutting abrasive composites in an area spacing of at least 1,200 composites/cm2.
Patent
Plural layered coated abrasive
TL;DR: In this article, the median particle size of the grits in the outer layer is at least 150% of that of the inner layer grits, and a product made in this way is effective for one step fining of plastic ophthalmic lenses.
Patent
Method of texturing rigid memory disks using an abrasive article
TL;DR: In this article, a method for texturing magnetic recording media substrates which have a thin-film metal or metal alloy coating plated onto a substrate using an abrasive composite bonded to a porous backing is presented.
Patent
Tapered extrusion die and method of forming the same
TL;DR: In this article, the die blank and sleeve are removed from the die, allowing the release of the stored strain energy of deformation which causes the smaller bore of the die to assume a conical shape tapering radially outwardly from its inner extremity.
Patent
Tape guide for a data cartridge
TL;DR: In this article, a belt driven reel-to-reel tape cartridge includes two tape guides for guiding the tape to and from respective tape reels, which are flanged to form a long trough to guide and align the tape.
