Compositions for thermal energy storage or thermal energy generation
TLDR
In this paper, the authors propose a composition for thermal energy storage or thermal energy generation comprising a silica based gel or dry powder in the form of silica particles containing a water/urea phase change material for thermal storage or an endothermic or exothermic compound for thermal power generation.Abstract:
A composition for thermal energy storage or thermal energy generation comprising a silica based gel or dry powder in the form of silica particles containing a water/urea phase change material for thermal energy storage or an endothermic or exothermic compound for thermal energy generation. The water/urea phase change material stores and releases at least 50 cal/gm of thermal energy in freezing and melting, and has a melting and a freezing point in the range of -11° C. to -15° C. The endothermic compound is preferably ammonium nitrate, urea, or combinations thereof. The exothermic compound is preferably calcium oxide or calcium chloride. The thermal energy storage composition may find use in a variety of applications including medical wraps, food servingware, and "blue ice" for cold packs or food storage. The thermal energy generation composition may find use as medical wraps, food servingware, and refrigerators when endothermic and medical wraps, food servingware, heaters, stadium seats, boots, vests, caps ear muffs, and scarves when exothermic.read more

Microwave heating package, method and susceptor composition
William C. Winters,Hsien-Hsin Chang,George R. Anderson,Aamusutorongu Iisutaa Rosu,Jeffrey J. Sholl +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a microwave heating package, and a method of microwave heating are presented. Both the package and the method employ a lossy chemical susceptor which upon continued exposure to microwave radiation becomes substantially microwave transparent, thus building into the system a unique maximum temperature shut off at the point at which the susceptor becomes microwave transparent.

Polyolefin composites containing a phase change material
TL;DR: In this paper, a composite of a polyolefinear matrix having a phase change material such as a crystalline alkyl hydrocarbon incorporated therein is presented, which is useful in forming pellets, sheets or fibers having thermal energy storage characteristics.
Patent
Phase change compositions
TL;DR: Compositions containing crystalline, long chain, alkyl hydrocarbons as phase change materials include cementitious compositions containing the alkyls in pellets or granules formed by incorporating the alks in polymers or rubbers; and polymeric or elastomeric compositions containing alksides as mentioned in this paper.

Chemical thermal pack
TL;DR: A chemical thermal pack is a sealed intermediate envelope filled with a powder that produces or absorbs heat when dissolved in water and a quantity of water separated from the powder by a membrane that may be ruptured readily as mentioned in this paper.
