Continuous esterification process

TLDR
In this article, the authors investigated the effect of using an ACIDIC CATALYST in the presence of an ACRYLIC ACID or METHACrylic ACID and a mixture of water and alcohol.
Abstract
IN THE PROCESS FOR CONTINUOUSLY PREPARING ACRYLIC ACID ESTERS OR METHACRYLIC ACID ESTERS BY REACTING ACRYLIC ACID OR METHACRYLIC ACID WITH AN EXCESS OF EITHER METHANOL OR ETHANOL IN THE LIQUID PHASE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ACIDIC CATALYST, THE METHOD CHARACTERIZED IN THAT THE ACRYLIC ACID OR METHACRYLIC ACID AND ALCOHOL ARE REACTED IN THE REACTION ZONE AT A MOLAR RATIO OF 1:1.2-5.0 AT A TEMPERATURE OF 40-100*C.; IN HEATING THE RESULTING REACTION PRODUCT IN AN EVAPORATING STILL TO DISTILL OFF THE ACRYLIC ACID ESTER OR METHACRYLIC ACID ESTER, WATER AND ALCOHOL, THE CONCENTRATION OF THE ACRYLIC ACID OR METHACRYLIC ACID OF THE BOTTOM LIQUID INSIDE THE EVAPORATING STILL IS MAINTAINED AT 10-40% BY WEIGHT; AND THE BOTTOM LIQUID IN AN AMOUNT OF AT LEAST 0.4 TIMES BY WEIGHT OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE ACRYLIC ACID OR METHACRYLIC ACID AND ALCOHOL FED TO THE REACTION ZONE IS RECYCLED FROM THEEVAPORATING STILL TO THE REACTION ZONE.

Continuous preparation of alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid

TL;DR: In this article, the process for the continuous preparation of alkyl esters of (meth)acrylic acid by reacting (mETH)ACrylic acid with monohydric alkanols having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms in the presence of an acid esterification catalyst in a reaction zone is described.

Process for producing methacrylic ester

TL;DR: In this article, a process for producing a methacrylic ester which comprises catalytically oxidizing isobutylene, tert-butanol, methacrolein or isobutoyl aldehyde in a vapor phase, removing light-boiling substances from the resulting reaction product by distillation or stripping is described.

Method for producing higher (meth)acrylic acid esters

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for producing higher (meth)acrylic acid esters in a reactor with a circulation evaporator without using copper salts as the polymerization inhibitors is described.

Method for separation of an ester from a reaction mixture

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved method for separating an ester formed in a reaction mixture is disclosed, which comprises controlling the ratio of organic acid and alcohol utilized and the removal of unreacted alcohol as an alcohol-ester azeotrope.

Process for conducting equilibrium-limited reactions

TL;DR: In this article, a process for conducting equilibrium-limited reactions, such as esterification and alcoholysis reactions, that uses two reaction zones is described, where the first reaction zone operates under reaction conditions that retain at least a portion of the product in a liquid phase, and the second reaction zone is introduced into the first one which operates under conditions sufficient to crack heavies, for example, Michael-addition heavies.
