Abstract: Three horizontal conveyor belts in line are used for inlet, travel through the tunnel and outlet and are driven together with the drive shafts for the paddle wheels in the airlocks by a common motor through belts etc. at esp. 200 m/min. Each airlock has an inlet and outlet window and the angle between the nearest edges of the windows is larger than that between the blades of paddle wheel as measured at the centre of the cylindrical casing and shaft. Valves for injection and drainage of hot water at over 100 degrees C and over 2 atmos. and for air venting are fitted in the cylindrical casings and operated by solenoids switched by the rotary paddle wheels.
