This chapter will cover the depositional processes and products of glacial marine settings with an emphasis on Antarctica There have been several well-researched books published exclusively on glacial marine deposits and processes, an excellent annotated bibliography, several workshop volumes, several excellent chapters in other volumes, and some very good review articles more recently There are also two published atlases which go a long way towards placing glacial marine sediments into a proper context with respect to seafloor morphology and stratigraphy We focus on Antarctic systems because that is where our expertise jointly lies In this chapter, we summarize the justification for studying of glacial marine deposits and what these can offer in terms of understanding the earth’s past climate evolution and its apparent trajectory We cover more topics than usual in such works, including new data on ice shelf sedimentation, biogenic interactions, evolving proxies for provenance and palaeoceanographic reconstruction, volcanic process, and a look at deep time in glaciomarine stratigraphy
