Transarticular screw fixation for atlanto-occipital dislocation.

Dieter Grob
- 15 Mar 2001 -
TL;DR: Anatomic reduction and reliable fixation with transarticular screws may provide satisfactory clinical results with important neurologic recovery in cases of atlanto-occipital dislocation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Survival after concurrent traumatic dislocation of the atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial joints: a case report and review of the literature.

TL;DR: A high index of suspicion is required to appropriately manage a patient with this devastating injury in order to maximize the chance for survival and lead to the survival of patients with significant deficit from occipitocervical injuries.
Journal ArticleDOI

The mechanism underlying the occurrence of traumatic brainstem lesions in victims of traffic accidents

TL;DR: It was concluded that when a pedestrian or cyclist is hit by a vehicle travelling at high speed, the traction force due to the inertia of the head is one of the causes of violent hyperextension of theHead that result in traumatic brainstem lesions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forensic pathological observations on fatal injuries to the brain stem and/or upper cervical spinal cord in traffic accidents

TL;DR: A retrospective study of forensic autopsy cases of brain stem and/or upper cervical spinal cord injuries as a result of traffic accidents in Kanazawa and Munich found that pedestrians were the most common type of victims, followed by car drivers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Medico-legal aspects of traumatic injury of the vertebrobasilar artery.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between site of impact and site of vascular injury in 16 cases of isolated traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage and found that the vertebral artery on the side of impact tended to be longitudinally injured in victims experiencing an external force equivalent to that of a fist punch to the head or face.

Acceleration induced head injury in the monkey.I. The model, its mechanical and physiological correlates.

TL;DR: This model and the ETS scale offer the ability to study a broad spectrum of types of experimental head injury and underscore the importance of angular acceleration as a mechanism of head injury.
