Thermal fatigue of austenitic and duplex stainless steels

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal fatigue behavior of AISI 304L, ACX-100 and ACX100 duplex stainless steels was analyzed with measurements and numerical calculations, and the evolution of thermal fatigue damage was monitored with periodic residual stress measurements and replica assisted microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crystallographic analysis of fatigue fracture initiation in 8Ni-0.1C martensitic steel

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed crystallographic orientation analysis using EBSD revealed that block boundaries in lath martensite structure were the most preferential initiation sites for fatigue cracks and that incompatibility of plastic strains between adjacent blocks was the origin for the formation of initial fatigue cracks at block boundaries.
Journal ArticleDOI

Applied Fracture Mechanics in Metallurgical Failure Investigations

TL;DR: Extended abstract of a paper presented at Microscopy and Microanalysis 2005 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, July 31-August 4, 2005 as discussed by the authors, presented by as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Análise fractográfica da liga AA 7075-T6 submetida à fadiga na condição de tratamento RRA e nitretada a plasma

TL;DR: In this paper , a tratamento térmico de retrogression and re-aging (RRA) and nitretação a plasma antes dos ensaios mecânicos were evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the strain energy release rate and fatigue crack growth rate in metallic alloys

TL;DR: In this paper , a dimensionally correct fatigue crack growth rate equation is introduced that is based on the original crack driving force as introduced by Griffith and the presence of plasticity in a metal to withstand crack propagation.
